Description

As a member of the Additive Manufacturing team, you will engineer and design composite tooling and components to be produced on some of the world's most advanced large scale additive manufacturing hybrid printers utilizing the most advanced polymer technologies available. Our team-oriented culture embraces continuous improvement and ensures operational and process excellence. In this position you will use the latest CAD and simulation software to execute design activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Design and Engineer tooling solutions for all aspects of composite structures or panel production, including tooling, laminating, drilling, routing/trimming, bonding, and assembly processes.
  • Provide technical expertise on the design of the components and assemblies to maximize quality level, minimize cost and reduce risk.
  • Prepare and present design reviews with customers.
  • Ensure statement of work is clearly defined and approved by the manufacturing team.
  • Stay current and utilize where appropriate, the latest technology for composite production and assembly processes and implement new technology into Airtech's tooling designs.
  • Develop error-proofing techniques to minimize risk and assure build quality.
  • Support investigations on new software or other design and engineering aides with the ability to provide specifications, evaluations, and recommendations for purchase.
  • Maintain electronic records and revision controls as required within the company document control system.
  • Ensure that company quality and standard processes and procedures are followed, and that appropriate documents and paperwork are accurately completed on a timely basis.
  • Ensure company and customer IP is protected using provided systems and best practices when handling protected data.
  • Support domestic and international customer development projects at customer sites as required.
  • Sustain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as required by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in appropriate science, technology, or engineering field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a tooling, composite part / mold manufacturing environment, or industrial additive manufacturing facility.
  • Proven experience using Catia or Unigraphics/Siemens NX.
  • Demonstrated experience or formal GD&T training or certification.
  • Experience with all aspects of composite part design and fabrication.
  • Good at freehand concept sketching to clearly communicate your ideas to quotations dept and customers.
  • Self-driven, with a strong background in pragmatic problem solving, organization, inter-team communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to growth opportunities.
  • Able to work varied shifts, overtime, and weekends when necessary.
  • Ability to use software-based stress analysis or simulation tools for complex composite structures or parts.
  • Demonstrated ability to create 3D solids or surfaces to facilitate sliced model programs from customer supplied part models and specifications to support large scale 3D printing with polymer composite materials.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Familiar with the use of PFMEAs.
  • Passion for engineering, composites, 3D printing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time while working on a computer or conducting meetings.
  • Ability to use manual dexterity for keyboarding, writing, and operating equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and through written correspondence.
  • Ability to stand and walk, as well as push, pull, squat, bend, stoop and reach frequently during shifts.
  • Ability to regularly push/ pull and lift/carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds.
