About the company

We believe in a world without misdiagnoses, where every patient receives the best opportunity to recover and lead a healthy life. And we are the team solving this problem every single day for millions of patients across the country.

Covera Health is transforming how quality health care is measured and delivered. We are starting in radiology where the wrong diagnosis can lead to a cascade effect of misguided care, enormous patient harm and, for some, a missed opportunity for recovery. An early and accurate diagnosis is the patient’s best chance to get better.

Our first product uses a proprietary framework that leverages advanced data science and artificial intelligence to help patients receive an accurate diagnosis. Today, we are working with some of the largest healthcare payers in the country to impact millions of patient lives. With a pipeline representing 25% of insured individuals in the US, the opportunity to transform radiology and, in turn, improve patient care across the globe is in front of us.

Headquartered in New York City, Covera Health closed a $25M Series C financing round with Insight Partners, a leading global venture capital and private equity firm investing in high-growth companies that are driving transformative change in their industries.

About the role

As the Vice President, Data Science, you will help to lead and scale Covera's data science organization as we continue to grow the world’s leading clinical analytics platform for reducing medical misdiagnosis, already available to millions of patients. There is an enormous opportunity for this leader to assist in driving the Company's data science strategy and build impactful data solutions that will better define, measure and deliver more accurate diagnoses, leading to higher quality healthcare.

You will be expected to:

  • Partner with Covera's leadership team to represent data science, initiate and debate key strategic topics and opportunities from your team’s work, and drive bold, high-impact decisions.
  • Identify and prioritize the strategic agenda for your department in a way accretive to the overall organizational goals and aligned with other leaders.
  • Develop a roadmap and implementation plan, establishing key milestones and deliverables for data science.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality data science outputs which may vary broadly in nature from foundational research resulting in peer reviewed articles and white papers, to analytics products and ROI analyses, to internal business analytics tools.
  • Grow and expand the data science team focused on forward-pushing skills that span from experimentation to machine learning models.
  • Think deeply about building effective data science organizations that align company goals.
  • Lead in recruiting and hiring key positions.
  • Establish relationships with other executives to drive outcomes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in leading data science organizations, preferably with experience in the healthcare industry. Specific knowledge of claims data is a plus.
  • History of success in building data solutions, from initial R&D to testing to deployment at
    scale.
  • Deep technical background in data science, including but not limited to statistical analyses, population outcomes studies, machine learning and behavioral analytics.
  • Demonstrated strategic impact at a leadership level, including interacting with other leaders and applying strong judgment and analysis toward important business decisions.
  • Experience building and leading expert data science teams comprising both managers and individual contributors and are adept at figuring out ways to help them flourish.
  • Skilled at operating in a cross-functional organization where your teams need to collaborate and integrate with other teams across many disciplines.
  • Ideally, you possess a PhD or Masters in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, Operations Research, etc.
  • High growth company experience is preferred.
  • You are highly effective at creating collaborative relationships across an entire organization.
  • You care about the cutting-edge questions as much as the business support work - as long as it gets us closer to our mission.
  • You are entrepreneurial with an incredible sense of urgency and ability to make quick, yet thoughtful decisions.
  • You possess excellent written and oral communication skills; you know how to explain complex concepts in simple, easy-to-understand ways that will resonate across stakeholders.
  • You're an exceptional problem solver and strategic thinker; you worry about the big and small and understand how to prioritize the two.
  • You know how to take a clinical or data science question, at its infancy, and move it through the entire lifecycle from research and execution to deployment.
  • You are an inspirational leader; you understand how to build, grow and mentor a team.
  • Your leadership style is built upon insight into your own strengths and weaknesses; self-awareness is the greatest strength, the lack of it the greatest weakness.

You will be a full-time employee with competitive salary, stock options, and great benefits. These benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, HRA, 401k, pre-tax commuter benefits, flexible paid time off, and--when we go back to the office--a comfortable office space filled with a variety of quality snacks and beverages.
