The VP, Data Privacy & Security drives the Business Unit's data and privacy efforts. This key leadership role works to evolve the data privacy and security roadmap and mentor and develop a high functioning team. Strong technical knowledge of security issues and a passion for team-oriented approach to problem solving with stakeholders to identify business requirements and expected outcomes. Models and frames meaningful scenarios which materially impact critical business processes and/or decisions. Deep understanding of our markets, payer, provider, and patient dynamics alongside knowledge of the digital technology and partnership landscape are highly desired.

This position is part of the Data Privacy & Security team and will be located in Sunnyvale, CA or USA remote. At Cepheid, our mission is Delivering a Better Way to improve patient outcomes by enabling access to molecular diagnostic testing everywhere.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Deliver high-quality, innovative, and customer-centric security and privacy experience for internal and external customers.
  • Manage and develop an existing team of security and privacy professionals.
  • Work with the BU leaders and teams to create strategic security and privacy plans and oversee security and privacy risk management programs.
  • Lead the development of security and privacy solutions. Manage security and privacy incidents and breaches.
  • Supervise the development of security-related policies, standards, and procedures
  • Collaborate across departments to develop and maintain a secure and privacy-driven infrastructure
  • Plan, monitor, and forecast security and privacy budgets. Lead employee awareness programs on security-related matters.
  • Identifying technology trends and evolving social behavior that may support or impede success. Developing strong external relationships with industry experts in data solutions
  • Ensuring data privacy and security plans are aligned with corporate quality system, regulatory requirements, and digital health regulatory models and initiatives.
  • Collaborates with senior leaders across the business and influences the opinions of others within the business unit, in external organizations, and across Opcos; exercises sensitivity to the audience.


The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor's degree with 20+ years of experience OR Master's/Doctoral degree with 18+ years of experience AND 6+ years managing people.
  • Ten (10) or more years of direct work experience in data management / privacy, enterprise DevSecOps / architecture, and product DevSecOps / architecture.
  • Fifteen (15) or more years of work experience in computer engineering/science or related fields.


It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Medical device experience.
  • Experience in Quality System Regulations (QSR) 21 CFR 820; Design Control: ISO 13485:2003, FDA regulations.
