Mission For The Position:

As a data practitioner and senior leader of the function, you’ll build and manage a core team of data and analytics professionals. You’ll bring world-class expertise, practices, and tools to an already high-caliber team. You’ll make this team and tools deeply integrated with Leap’s product and engineering teams and tools. You’ll help define and promulgate high standards and expectations for our ML engineers, analytics engineers, and analytics managers.

As Vice President of Data, you’ll work outside your team to collaborate with functional teams on building data literacy and savvy throughout the business. You’ll work closely with Product to make sure Leap’s data is leveraged thoroughly and accurately in brand-facing tools. You’ll work closely with Sales and Real Estate to build data-driven practices and workflows. You’ll work closely with our People team to build data-driven and modern hiring and management practices. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hire and cultivate a growing team of analytics engineers, managers, and ML practitioners
  • Contribute to productive work alongside engineers and analysts
  • Use a Product mindset to evaluate opportunities, priorities, and strategies
  • Use an Engineering mindset to drive standardization and automation
  • Be encouraging, supportive, kind, fun, sensitive, honest, a great teacher, and above all, a great student

Competencies For Success:

  • 10 years+ full-time analytics/data engineering work experience and familiarity with modern practices
  • Experience hiring and managing ML engineering practitioners
  • Experience with modern ELT pipelines and tools (dbt, Stitch, Bigquery, etc)
  • Experience with modern ML frameworks and deployment frameworks
  • Familiarity with Python and conventional software development processes, like environment promotion, version control, and automated testing
  • Almost compulsive need to organize and clarify 
  • Humility and high aptitude for learning and self-improvement
  • High level of comfort working along a dynamic and evolving roadmap
  • Innately curious, wants to understand all parts of Leap’s business, encourages innovation and creative problem solving with others
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and working style - self-starting, highly accountable, ability to anticipate problems and define and implement effective solutions

  • Increased utilization of Leap network data by our brands to grow their businesses
  • Better data-driven decision-making by internal Leap functions
  • Increased data literacy and self-sufficiency among Leap staff

What are some social events your company does?

Work-life balance is great and Leap offers flexibility. As a parent, that is key for me.
While covid was at its height, we were doing virtual hangouts which was great and a nice way to get to know the team. We navigated that part nicely. As the world started opening back up, we incorporated other fun in person social events to our calendar.

What projects are you most excited about?

Our goal is to fundamentally change how retail works. It feels amazing to have a team that has such innovative ideas for accomplishing this goal. More specifically, we are putting the framework down for automating how stores get on the platform. In time, the technology will configure itself and everything will be plug and play (which is exciting).
