Positions in this function include those who monitor and operate computer and peripheral equipment: review, analyze, and modify programming systems including encoding, testing, debugging and installing for large-scale computer systems. Evaluate system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility. Provide expertise in software systems programming, operating software applications, consulting on complex projects/existing applications, timely completion of scheduled jobs, and overall operating systems. Also includes overseeing environments' health and facilitation of high severity incidents to improve the state of service availability and continuity. Develop processes and activities that focus on restoring service after an incident occurs. Document all hardware, application, facility, etc. problems and take corrective action as required.
As a Linux System Administrator, you would work with a variety of individuals that may include business users, internal and external customers, application developers, QA, project leaders and others with a primary focus on large-scale systems, applications, databases and reports leveraging multiple tools, processes, and technologies.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Experience with auditing and security standards such as PCI, DISA, SOX, FISMA
  • Ability to create and maintain all documentation and adhere to company standards and PCI/SOX policy and regulations
  • Expertise in hardening, testing and monitoring systems against possible security threats, with exposure to PCI and SOX standards
  • Handling server administration functions across the nation and abroad
  • Deployment of operating system security and software updates
  • Vulnerability and risk management including antivirus, baselines
  • Highly organized, possess a meticulous attention to detail and comfortable working within strict operational boundaries and procedures
  • Excellent communication and multitasking skills, highly organized, ability to complete high level projects with little supervision

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree OR High School Diploma/GED and at least 3 years of equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience supporting/maintaining RHEL ( Linux) operating systems
  • 3+ years of experience with VMware and ESX Server Support
  • 1+ years of general experience with Visual Basic Scripting and Microsoft MSI packages
  • Must be willing to work outside of normal business (Wed - Sun 6pm - 2am)
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Ability to obtain favorable adjudication following submission of Department of Defense form SF86 NAC form SF86


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with auditing and security standards such as PCI, DISA, SOX
  • Experience with creating and updating training documentation and presentations as needed

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $66,100 to $118,300. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $72,800 to $129,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
