Yahoo's Business Insights and Analytics team is looking for a Strategy & Analytics leader who is a versatile data enthusiast with rich experience in big data processing, excellent analytical skills, and proven ability to communicate analytical findings.
As a Director of SSP Data Engineering and Analytics, you will be responsible for inspiring and leading a team of Data Engineers and Analysts to provide deep analytical insights into the Ad Tech marketplace and drive cross-functional engagement across key stakeholder groups (Product, Engineering, Business, and Yield). The ideal candidate would possess the right combination of business acumen, analytical mindset, and technical skills to leverage data insights to guide business & product decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership: inspire, lead and mentor a global high performing team of analysts and data engineers
  • Product Insights: Provide data analysis and insights to help our Product team evaluate, prioritize, experiment (A/B test), establish KPIs or success criteria, and measure the adoption & impact of product deliverables.
  • Marketplace Insights: Be the subject matter expert for marketplace health and performance. Leverage data insights and storytelling to surface critical actionable business insights around risks and opportunities. Drive proactive and reactive investigations towards improving monetization
    • This includes insights into a publisher, bidder, buyer, product, and pricing/auction dynamics.
    • Proactively monitor marketplace changes, detecting anomalies and root-cause issues affecting marketplace performance.
    • Maximize monetization of marketplace via analytics deep-dives and recommendations to ensure that supply and demand are smartly matched
    • Be a strategic partner and surface timely insights to drive business decisions.
  • Cross-team partnership:
    • Business Reviews: Partner with Finance, sales, and account leaders to provide data and insights for monthly and quarterly business reviews.
    • Products: Provide strategic and operational insights and partner with the Product Management team to define critical operational metrics, targets, and thresholds for product deliverables, product feature development (S2S, HB, CTV, DOOH, etc.), and experimentation
    • Partnerships/BD: Partner with BD on critical deals, both during the pre-deal modeling cycle as well as post-deal marketplace execution and operational insights for maximizing publisher monetization
  • Growth Strategy team: Partner with the 3iLabs team to create, monitor, and improve key performance indicators (KPIs) to aid in strategic product initiatives and overall strategy
  • Ad Hoc /General Analysis: Measure and evaluate revenue impacting projects - supply and demand activations, platform migrations, and other platform-wide impacts (Msft Pre-bid, S2S integrations, publisher margin testing, COVID-19, ITP, Gemini RTB testing, etc.)
  • Dashboards and Reporting: Define, track, and monitor key business metrics and leading indicators. Synthesize data across multiple datasets, solving for data discrepancies/deficiencies, to provide easy-to-access, holistic, and normalized views of Exchange data
  • Communication: Effectively communicate and present actionable insights and analyses, both verbally and in writing to stakeholders


Requirements:

  • 10+ years of professional experience in analytics and data engineering
  • BS/MS in a highly-quantitative field (Analytics, Computer Science, Mathematics) is preferred.
  • Highly proficient at one or more data programming skills or at least general knowledge of multiple data languages such as SQL, Python, Golang, Ruby, Perl, Scala, Java, SAS, and R.
  • Extensive experience in Data Warehousing, Database Management, Data Analysis, and data visualization (e.g., Looker, Tableau, and other UIs) are required.
  • Extensive experience in analytics, data engineering, and dashboards
  • Critical thinker with the ability to analyze and evaluate situations objectively; capable of making recommendations and decisions based on what's best for the business goal at hand
  • Experience working with large and complex data sets
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a problem solver who never stops thinking about ways to improve
