Summary of Position:
Alcon is looking to hire a Sr. Scientist II to join the Materials Engineering team to design, develop, process and test materials used to create Ophthalmic Viscosergical devices, intraocular lens and hydrogel formulations. You will be responsible for researching and studying the structures and chemical properties of various materials by performing experiments and analyzing and interpreting data using your knowledge and experience with polymeric materials, and physical/chemical characterization.
Key responsibilities:
- Analyze and interpret data independently based on critical thinking and the use of statistic tools.
- Develop test methods and procedures for use in material characterization.
- Maintain and troubleshoot lab equipment and work with external vendors to identify and acquire new equipment.
- Develop insights into new materials, material characterization techniques, coatings related to ophthalmic applications.
- Work with cross-functional teams to understand design and medical device manufacturing processes to implement effective and efficient systems for product development.
- Collaborate and support with product development activities in manufacturing sites.
- Participate in process development teams to trouble-shoot process related issues and determine root-cause of failures and process variations.
- Works independently and under direction of senior technical professionals to accomplish objectives.
Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +10 yrs; Assoc.+6 yrs; M.S.+0 yrs)
- The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
- 2 Years of Relevant Experience
- Experience in polymeric materials, and physical/chemical characterization required.
- Experience in operating and reporting data from various thermal, mechanical and spectroscopic equipment is required.

Preferred Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Materials, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer or Biomedical Engineering or related field or equivalent years
- Experience in Ophthalmic Viscosergical devices and other hydrogel formulations is preferred
- Experience in medical devices / optics in Materials, Chemistry R&D is preferred
- Experience in Acrylic Polymeric materials/process
- Knowledge of ISO, FDA, MDD and regulations applicable to the design and development of medical device/science/technology preferred.
