Are you a research associate with experience in molecular assay development? This could be the role for you! GRAIL is seeking a Senior Research Associate on the Assay Development team at our headquarters in Menlo Park to perform studies to support the development and integration of GRAIL’s groundbreaking cancer screening products. The ideal candidate is a diligent positive team player with experience in product development of molecular assays.

You will:

  • Contribute to wet-lab assay development studies in support of IVD product development goals, including the planning and execution of experiments and preliminary data analysis under the guidance of senior scientists
  • Implement development and system integration studies to generate high quality data by following best practices of assay and instrument operations
  • Test and optimize custom protocols
  • Support technical troubleshooting investigations in support of implementation and operations teams
  • Document experimental details in electronic formats, and support documentation of study protocols and results
  • Support presentation of experimental results to cross-functional technical teamsEnsure laboratory activities are performed in compliance with safety guidelines
  • Ensure technical activities are in line with regulatory requirements (CAP/CLIA/FDA)

Your background includes:

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or similar field with a minimum of 3 years of work experience in an industry setting
  • Hands-on experience with Illumina NGS workflows including DNA extraction, library preparation highly preferred
  • Experience with standard nucleic acid analytical techniques (e.g, Fragment Analyzer, qPCR, Nanodrop)

Preferred skills...

  • Experience with the development and implementation of clinical laboratory tests under CAP/CLIA or FDA/regulated environments
  • Experience with the development, optimization, and troubleshooting of NGS assay protocols a plus
  • Experience with automated laboratory instrumentation such as liquid handlers and multi-functional work cells a plusExperience with statistical programming or software (e.g, R, JMP) a plus
  • Experience with design control and change control.
