Position Summary:• The IT Integrations and Data team is currently seeking a Senior Manager of Data Engineering. This role will report into the Director of IT Integrations and Data• As a technical managerial role, this person will oversee the strategy, roadmap, architectural design, implementation, and operations of the enterprise IT "Data Landing Zone", based on the Snowflake technology, to support the commercial, supply chain, finance, product quality, customer service / call center, and manufacturing businesses• The ideal candidate will possess a combination of a hands-on tech background, people management, and business savvy, and will also have a strong sense of product ownership and end-to-end delivery management• You will be empowered to build a strong, global team of IT data engineers to ensure the Data Landing Zone continues to evolve to meet the growing needs of the business while maintaining continuous service levels• This role interacts cross functionally with IT, R&D, and business functions, including product mgmt, compliance, data governance, and QA, to ensure a clear understanding of business needs within the boundaries of a regulated company

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:• Conduct day-to-day management of the Data Engineering and Support teams, taking full ownership of staffing, human-resource activities, project priority and delivery, and resolving operational issues• Formulate a global organization plan and build a talent pipeline to meet business goals and support current systems, while continually developing and inspiring team to help them grow in their career paths• Deliver key enterprise datasets and data services to our various business depts to enable data analytic and scientist teams to gain valuable insights and facilitate decision making, to help achieve topline commercial growth, identify new market opportunities, and realize operational efficiencies• Establish DataOps methodologies to deliver data services as automated, orchestrated data pipelines to ensure our datasets are always available and with high data quality• Evolve the capabilities and maturity of the enterprise data landing zone by creating a multi-year strategy and roadmap to scale to future capacities, increased functional capabilities, and improved up-time, while aligning with the needs of product, engineering, architecture, and data science and analytics teams• Continue to innovate by observing industry trends and best practices, assessing new technology, and understanding product positioning. Balance innovation and operational stability of the platform• Serve as thought leader and SME advisor across the organization, and develop a center-of-excellence for enterprise data to benefit our internal customers• Establish intelligent monitoring practices to streamline end-to-end systems operation through alerting, pro-active self-healing, and operational KPI capture. Build HA/DR resiliency to meet 24/7 uptime and SLA levels• Actively manage relationships with software vendors to influence longer-term capabilities, as well as manage outsourced consultancy partners, including setting expectations regarding deliverables, product quality, schedules, and costs• Manage budgets for data-tools software and staffing along with total cost of ownership of enterprise data in line with the growth of the company• Collaborate effectively, building partnerships with product managers, engineering teams, data analytics/science teams, and business stakeholders across the company to drive key company data initiatives, and deliver the right solution with proper scope at the right time• As a medical device company, ensure the organization understands quality and privacy standards, and verify ongoing compliance with HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA, PIPEDA, SOX, and FDA regulations, while also aligning with data governance and InfoSecurity practices to ensure data is consistently secured

Required Qualifications: • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in a Technical discipline and a minimum if 13+ years of related experience, or a master's degree and 8+ years of equivalent industry experience, or a PhD and 5+ years of experience• Minimum 8 years of total software and data engineering experience, with at least 4 years acting as a developer/architect, and 3+ years of experience leading a team of software or data engineers in a management capacity• Strong track record of leadership and people management, with a demonstrated record of recruiting, managing, and retaining talent in data engineering in both onshore/offshore models• Proven ability to instill a strong team culture of ownership, collaboration, and outcome mindset• Experience with managing dept financials, including budgeting & forecasting for software and temp staff• Proficient with the Snowflake cloud data platform. Google BigQuery a plus• Background in building and operating robust, scalable, and efficient data pipelines for data extraction, ingestion, data transformation, and landing into data warehouses using DataOps methodologies • Experience with modern data-engineering tech stacks with the following: data ingest / data replication (e.g. Goldengate CDC, Qlik, FiveTran, Kafka), ETL/ELT data-wrangling tools (e.g. DBT, SnapLogic, Boomi, Glue, Informatica), data-workflow mgmt/scheduler tools (e.g. AirFlow, Prefect, Redwood, Stonebranch, etc.), building orchestrated data pipelines using aforementioned technologies• Familiarity with BI visualization tools such as Tableau or Microsoft Power BI• Solid overall understanding of technology infrastructure, including compute, network, storage, security• Skilled with databases (e.g. Oracle, MySQL), plus writing complex SQL and optimizing for performance• Familiarity with security protocols and data compliancy regulations (e.g. HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA)• Experience managing software development with Agile methodologies such as Scrum/Kanban while participating in agile ceremonies. Demonstrated knowledge on how to construct projects within Jira as the agile tool and how to form well-structured epics and user stories• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with ability to interact at the proper level with all audience types, and demonstrate confidence in communications with senior mgmt

Preferred Qualifications:• Experience working in a health-sciences regulated environment, preferably with a medical device company• Exposure to commercial, manufacturing operations, supply chains, or commercial/marketing organizations, and connecting data strategy to business strategy with executive leadership• Familiarity with data catalog, governance, and metadata management tools preferred, e.g. Alation, Collibra, Informatica• Knowledge of data-pipeline monitoring and data-lineage tools, such as DataFold• Exposure to at least one cloud platform, with preference to GCP. Awareness of cloud-native concepts and container technology such as Docker and Kubernetes• Some knowledge of streaming platforms, preferably Apache Kafka and related ecosystem (e.g. Kafka Connect, Kafka Streams) is a plus• Experience with version control systems like GitHub along with DevSecOps/GitOps methodologies and infra-as-code / configuration-as-code concepts• Exposure to one or more of these following business applications is desirable - Oracle EBS and Fusion, Oracle Service Cloud, Salesforce

Functional Description

Manages the planning and delivery of data warehouse and storage architecture. Duties may include management of design services, providing sizing and configuration assistance, and performing needs assessments. Analyzes current business practices, processes and procedures as well as identifying future business opportunities for leveraging data storage and retrieval system capabilities. Manages relationships with software and hardware vendors to understand the potential architectural impact of different vendor strategies, ensures the development of proper training and documentation for enterprise-wide technical architecture, systems use and maintenance, and planning and integrating next-generation technologies into the architectural strategy. Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Workplace Type

  • The Workplace Type for this role is Flex. Based on the nature of your position you will be working onsite approximately 2-3 days per week from collaborative space and hoteling desks at our Dexcom sites. You will need to be located within commuting distance (typically 75 miles/120km) of your assigned Dexcom site.
