We are searching for an innovative Data Engineering Manager to join our experienced team. This creative role offers an excellent opportunity to directly impact an innovative function and secure your future with an industry leader. This position is predominantly responsible for engineering to design, develop, implement, test, deploy, monitor, and maintain the delivery of data in a systematic method. This role will cover all primary development and maintenance activities across all technology functions to ensure that we deliver data with high quality for our users, applications, and services and to understand customer needs/business requirements as an individual contributor to deliver business value. Generally, work is self-directed and not prescribed.
Our team provides Data Analytics development and support, Business Intelligence Solutions, Custom Reporting, and Consulting for clients across Landmark, Optum and UnitedHealth Care. We provide data analytic development services across multiple data domains - member, eligibility, provider, medical and pharmacy claim data - and data sources.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing 2-3 teams of around 6-9 Engineers
  • Collaborating with stakeholders, business partner solution architects and technical architects to ensure that the solution is accurate to deliver outcomes to the client and reliable from a technology perspective
  • Lead others toward technical accomplishment, collaborative project team efforts and achievement of important project goals
  • Data engineering lifecycle including research, proof of concepts, design, development, test, deployment, and maintenance
  • Design, develop, implement, and run cross-domain, modular, optimized, flexible, scalable, secure, reliable, and quality data solutions that transform data for meaningful analyses and analytics while ensuring operability
  • Design, develop, implement, and run data solutions that improve data efficiency, reliability and quality, and are performant by design
  • Layer in instrumentation in the development process so that data pipelines can be monitored. Measurements are used to detect internal problems before they result into user visible outages or data quality issues
  • Build processes and diagnostics tools to troubleshoot, maintain and optimize solutions and respond to customer and production issues
  • Embrace continuous learning of engineering practices to ensure industry best practices and technology adoption, including DevOps, Cloud and Agile thinking
  • Tech debt reduction/ Tech transformation including Open-source adoption, Cloud adoption, HCP assessment and adoption
  • Contribution to our industry community and strive to reuse and share components wherever possible across the organization
  • Maintain high quality documentation of data definitions, transformations, and processes to ensure data governance and security
  • Identifies solutions to non-standard complex requests and problems and creates solution and/or conducts complex analyses
  • Interprets policies and applies experience
  • Works independently
  • Has responsibility and capability to work multi-platforms
  • Possesses capability to work on full business and/or technology stack
  • Provides guidance, assistance, and consultation to others (i.e., SME, Mentor)
  • Demonstrates expertise in leading-edge theories, techniques and/or technologies
  • Leads the development of new concepts, technologies, and products to meet emerging customer requirements
  • Identifies and solves problems that impact the management and direction of the business
  • Develops plans that impact the long-term success of the business
  • Influences senior management decisions that impact business direction

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience and fully proficient with gathering business requirements and analyzing data
  • 8+ years of experience and fully proficient with client relations/customer service
  • 8+ years of experience and fully proficient with the capability to work multiplatform environments
  • 5+ years of experience in Databases and writing SQL
  • Ability to partner with Business, Technical, and Strategic Product to manage project commitments in an agile framework; rapidly delivering value to our customers via technology solutions
  • Ability to participate in architectural evolution of data engineering patterns, frameworks, systems, and platforms including defining best practices and standards for managing data collections and integration


Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master's or other advanced degrees in Computer Science/Engineering or a related field
  • Experience working in healthcare
  • Solid experience with Agile

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $97,300 to $176,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $97,300 to $176,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
