Job Description:
Caterpillar's Global Rental and Used Services (GRUES) is investing in our digital future, and we're looking for a Sr. Data Scientist to help maximize dealer's profitability. GRUES is focused on accelerating services and parts growth by providing end to end analytics solutions through state-of-the-art cloud analytics, innovative and customer-focused solutions. In this role you will act as the technical lead of analytics project teams tasked with delivering analytics solutions of low to medium complexity or business impact.
What will you do? (Essential Responsibilities)

  • Demonstrate a breadth of knowledge in the application statistical methods and/or digital methods to solve business problems
  • Coach and mentor other Information Scientists in the creation, validation, and application of statistical models, as well as in implementing digital solutions
  • Participate on 3-4 projects concurrently
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of Caterpillar Inc.; its products and services; its internal systems, processes, and procedures; and its relevant external influences (competitors, laws and regulations, market conditions, etc.) to meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Demonstrate strong initiative to research and apply new methods to exceed customer expectations
  • Have a strong focus on continual learning in the Analytics field


How You'll be Successful (Basic Qualifications)

  • 7+ years of professional experience utilizing quantitative analysis/ data management (data design, data quality, metadata, governance, etc.)
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience leading data management or software engineering projects
  • Experience with AWS services, Cloud ELT/ETL, SQL, Snowflake, and python coding


Additional Skills for Success (Desired Qualifications)

  • Strong knowledge of end-to-end data lifecycle across traditional data warehouses, relational databases, operational data stores, business intelligence reporting, as well as new concepts such as data fabrics, data mesh, and data lakehouse.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, metadata management, data quality, data modeling, and data architecture concepts
  • Experience creating data solutions as well as conceptual and logical data models
  • Experience with metadata managers, data profiling tools, data cataloging tools and visualization tools
  • Experience with solution integration or solution architecture practices
  • Knowledge of data technology products and components for Big Data and Cloud (AWS, Data Lakes, and similar).
  • XML and JSON file format knowledge
  • Software development experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, Javascript, C++, Scala, etc.
  • Experience with Object Oriented Concepts/Development/Modeling
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a complex, rapidly changing, and culturally diverse environment.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical ideas, regardless of the technical capacity of the audience
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment where digital is still evolving as a core offering


This position is based out of Chicago, Peoria, or Aurora, IL.
