Sr. Data Scientist - Marketing Analytics


  • Support development of predictive models to optimize end-to-end acquisition economics
  • Develop and implement Direct Mail targeting models to support development and optimization of targeting marketing efforts
  • Design and implement A/B tests to determine cause and effect relationships between marketing actions and business outcomes
  • Monitor and report test results. Enable adoption of appropriate tests in all channels and across the customer life cycle.
  • Generate monitoring reports for key marketing metrics and results to track business performance and identify areas of opportunities and risks.
  • Adhoc Statistical analyses to support both the marketing department and the overall consumer Markets business
  • Partner with Marketing Program Managers to inform planning decisions through data analysis, trending, and modeling activities

Experience & Skills

Work experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience working in an analytical role including experience in statistical modeling, A/B testing, Python and SQL
  • Experience within the Financial Services sector, particularly consumer P&C insurance business models is preferred

  • Direct Marketing subject matter expertise
  • Knowledge and experience in developing machine learning models using Python . Experience with various machine learning techniques and Python Data Science Stack (Pandas, scikit-learn, NumPy, XGBoost)
  • Experience with analytics dashboards such as Tableau and/or Power BI
  • Deep statistical skills (Masters or PhD preferred).
  • Experience developing and using predictive statistical models in direct marketing environment
  • Ability to think deeply about statistical issues as well as business and marketing implications.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to present technical results to non-technical audiences
  • Ability to work in a matrixed environment
  • Strong project management skills, capable of managing project timelines and deliverables autonomously
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing channels and their optimization

  • Masters or PhD in statistics, economics, or mathematics strongly preferred, although an exception could be made for an individual with extensive professional training.


The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$98,800 - $148,200
