ABOUT THE POSITION

Although we're an apparel and footwear focused company, technology is central to everything we do. Columbia Sportswear's Digital Technology (CDT) teams enable an IT infrastructure across four global brands, a global supply chain, and 500+ geographically dispersed stores. These teams support in-store, mobile, and data platforms to enhance customer interface and service in an ever-evolving industry.

The Senior Data Engineer is a member of the CDT Data & Analytics team and is responsible for the design, development, testing, maintenance, and support of Columbia's enterprise data assets. We have openings to drive capability in two different teams.

As part of the Merchandising for Growth delivery team, you will continue to enhance our Enterprise Sales asset, supporting Merchandising and Supply Chain teams along with the CDT Product Owner and Business Systems Analysts. This solution spans the Sales lifecycle from long-range forecast to open bookings & historical sales. This is a truly global solution for Columbia Sportswear.

As part of the prAna squad, you will be in on the ground floor of integrating the brand into our Enterprise data platform on Azure. Key objectives include data acquisition from prAna's source systems, landing into Data Lake, integrating into existing solutions such as Enterprise Sales, and building new operational data assets for the prAna business. You will become the expert on the prAna data landscape for our global Data & Analytics team and develop relationships with stakeholders in the brand.

HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Lead activities that include data modeling (relational and dimensional), data lake & data warehouse development, data integration / ETL process development, OLAP semantic tier development, and support.
  • Continuously deliver and improve prioritized enterprise data assets that enable the growth of Columbia's global analytics, reporting and visualization solutions.
  • Coordinate frequently with several enterprise support organizations and Columbia end users.
  • Manage scheduling, support, tools and maintenance of integration processes.
  • Participate in the use of Agile practices to elicit and refine requirements through an iterative process of planning, defining acceptance criteria, prioritizing, developing and delivering enterprise data asset solutions.


YOU ARE

  • An experienced engineer in designing and delivering data assets for corporate Business Intelligence & Reporting scenarios.
  • Excited to shape new capability, position data assets for the appropriate use case, and influence project direction.
  • A strong communicator with a technical vision for Columbia's information management and analytics.
  • Highly conversant in the culture and changing landscape of information technology.
  • Curious and creative, always looking to deliver a superior product while working closely with a small scrum team.


YOU HAVE

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field or a combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience designing and developing data models, implementing data transformations, and managing production implementation of data assets in support of Reporting & Business Intelligence scenarios.
  • 5+ years professional experience with one or more ETL tools such as Informatica, SQL Server Integration Services, Business Objects Data Services, or Spark.
  • Experience in SQL and query optimization for data platforms such as Azure SQL DW/Synapse, Teradata, SAP HANA, Oracle, Redshift, Snowflake, or equivalent RDBMS required. Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse, or Databricks is a bonus.
  • Proficient in relational database concepts, including normalization, indexing, physical and logical modeling, creation of SQL queries and performance tuning.
  • Familiar with the Kimball and/or Inmon methods of data warehousing techniques, standards and best practices. Experience with management of a star schema implementation and related concepts such as slowly changing and late arriving dimensions.
  • Familiar with Data Lake and Spark concepts, hands-on experience working with Spark DataFrames, pySpark preferred.
