Physicians Mutual is looking for a Sr Business Intelligence Developer. The primary responsibilities will be developing, deploying, and maintaining interactive, intuitive, meaningful BI and Data Science applications. In this role the individual will be responsible for gathering, interpreting and analyzing business requirements and use cases, writing and testing code, debugging programs and integrating applications with third-party software. The individual will leverage in-house Big Data and external data through python programming, query tools, data visualization and interactive dashboards, ad hoc reporting, and data modeling tools. To be successful in this role, you should have strong SQL skills, experience in python and Tableau, good problem-solving skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities

  • As a member working in a team environment you will take direction from Data architects and Leads on development activities
  • Implement Data Visualization Techniques - Reports, Dashboards and Stories
  • Coordinate with internal teams to understand user requirements and provide technical solutions
  • Gather, interpret and analyze business requirements and use cases, develop concepts/mock-ups via iterative practices, and design reporting solutions (dashboards, scorecards etc.) that meet use cases/requirements, as well as achieve ease of usability and self-service capabilities
  • Perform data integration, write efficient SQL Queries, and develop/deploy reporting solutions that apply data visualization standards and best practices, and meets quality standards by performing unit testing
  • Write effective, scalable code
  • Develop back-end components to improve responsiveness and overall performance
  • Work in a fast-paced Agile environment especially as it pertains to new idea generation
  • Identify process improvement opportunities
  • Create documentation and technical specifications for reporting solutions, develop procedures/standard work, support readiness/training activities to end users
  • Perform routine maintenance support, and troubleshoot reported issues as well as determine root causes, and implement counter measures
  • Execute performance-tuning to achieve optimal performance
  • Oversee and validate integration of source data into the target environment
  • Coordinate new reporting requests/changes to ensure accuracy and consistency of reports
    Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics or relevant discipline
  • 4+ years of experience in statistical based data analytics BI application role with programming analysis tools
  • Experienced using Python & SQL
  • Expert knowledge of Tableau or Power BI
  • Experienced using any of the scripting languages Bash Shell, JavaScript, R or PowerShell
  • Strong debugging, problem solving and investigative skills
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodology
  • Self-starter who can work independently
  • Experience working with large data sets, leveraging distributed computing tools (Map/Reduce, Spark, Hadoop, Hive, Nutch, etc.)
    Preferred
  • Prior knowledge of ETL principles & concepts.
  • Experienced in Kimball methodology of data warehouse.
