Job Description The Data & Analytics team is the engine that powers JPMorgan Chase with insights to create competitive advantages for our business and deliver value for our customers. We have unified data and analytics talent across the firm and encompass a variety of disciplines including data science, reporting, quantitative analytics, and data governance. Within this organization, the Decision Sciences team leverages industry-leading data-driven techniques to convert data into meaningful insights that enable the firm to drive value and an outstanding customer experience.
The industry is rapidly changing, and JPMorgan Chase is transforming our wealth management business to accelerate growth. We are looking for talented data scientists to help execute our analytic strategies for the newly formed JPMorgan Wealth Management (JPMWM) business unit which includes our branch-based, remote, and home office advisory channels as well as our online investing digital platforms. Reporting to the VP of Segment Behavior Analytics, this role will be central in understanding investment customers' financial needs and their interactions with our products, services, and channels.
This is a vital hands-on role so we're looking for exceptionally creative, ambitious, \"data curious\" thinkers who can help to extract true business value from data. A typical day might include:

  • Hypothesizing on the transactional behaviors that would indicate a customer's mental models around investing and money movement
  • Profiling customers who currently send money to key competitors to inform product or program design targets
  • Searching for collections of behaviors and events that individually are innocuous but collectively indicate a likely first outflow to a competitor to enable timely, relevant outreach
  • Collaborating with the team on how big data, machine learning, or business intelligence can be leveraged to understand different investor personas
  • Monitoring data output and dashboards to proactively identify potential risks or emerging trends in outflow behaviors and seek to answer unasked questions
  • Leveraging knowledge of our current and future analytic needs to partner with Technology and Data Management to develop a roadmap for launching new customer data assets

You are a strong candidate if you:

  • Have an undergraduate or advanced degree in an analytical field (e.g., Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Operations Research) and experience working as a practicing data scientist
  • Know PYTHON is more than a snake! You have programming skills needed for both the computational aspects of big data as well as working with statistical models (e.g., complex SQL scripts and with Pyspark / Jupyter Notebooks
  • Stay abreast of modern data mining, quantitative research, and data science techniques (e.g., decision trees, linear/ multinomial logistic/ridge regressions, collinearity analysis (VIF), machine learning, string similarity, behavioral analytics, look-a-like models)
  • Have the expertise to right-size your analytical approach to the complexity of the problem
  • Have a demonstrated ability to think both independently and collaboratively to implement creative solutions that solve business problems, being diligent in the detail while maintaining focus on broader purpose and business objectives
  • Are comfortable summarizing key information and presenting recommendations to multiple stakeholders to influence senior management

Bonus points if you:

  • Previously worked in an insights function at a financial services firm or consulting firm
  • Have a strong grasp of big data disciplines, Agile (scrum) methodologies, and new technologies
  • Possess an understanding of how the wealth management market is evolving, the sources of competitive differentiation in the market, and how those could evolve
  • Are a lifelong learner and hold a growth mindset; we welcome individuals who geek out on industry podcasts, stay abreast of cutting edge techniques, or participate in KDD and Kaggle competitions for "fun" and love to share what they are learning with the rest of the team
