Software Engineer - Big Data Automation
Description
NOTE: This is a Hybrid position within our IT Organization. The role will allow employees to work remotely, but will also require onsite work based on business needs. The selected candidate will be expected to live a commutable distance to the innovation center they are selected for. Relocation will be provided as needed.
About the role:
Developer Productivity Software Engineers are responsible for new and innovative software development and design sophisticated and professional code for General Motors in the Big Data and Analytics ecosystem. We work closely with the large development community to drive productivity and simplify existing processes.
The Software Engineer will have a phenomenal team to work alongside, each member has an outstanding background and experience level with deep experience in the Big Data environment. - Quickly design, develop, and deliver new code
- Perform root cause analysis, do technology evaluations, and develop quick prototypes
- Modern development patterns and platforms (Microservices, Web Services (REST), Containers, Cloud Native)
- Consistently follow the specified software development methodology (Scrum, Agile)
- Promote improvements in programming practices such as continuous integration, and continuous delivery, test automation
Additional Description
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience with Agile teams that regularly delivered software while developing reusable code, practicing code reviews, and performing unit tests
- At least 5 years of demonstrated software development experience in Python or Java
- Experience with Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines
- Hands on demonstrated experience as a Data Engineer with Hive, Spark, Scala
- Expertise with MPP(Massive Parallel Processing) environments (Hadoop, Greenplum, Teradata) and Relational (PostGres, Oracle, SQL)
- Experience with creating self-contained, reusable services with Docker, Kubernetes, Pivotal Cloud Foundry
- Creative problem-solving skills that deliver elegant solutions to complex issues
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related field, or, equivalent combination of education and recent, relevant work experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience building 12 factor apps including designing and implementing Continuous Integration, Build, and Delivery
- Hands on experience utilizing platform and infrastructure as a service technologies and capabilities and their corresponding services (object store, configuration management, service registries, etc.)
- Experience using Git source control doing rebases, merges, and handling merge conflicts
