We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Human Factors (HF) professional with 3-5 years of practical experience contributing to human factors activities in the development of regulated physical and digital medical devices and technology. Preference for those with experience working throughout all phases of the design and development process and with multi-disciplinary engineering/design teams

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Work with our Human Factors team to apply fundamentals of human factors/usability engineering to regulated medical devices and consumer products, both physical and digital
  • Design, conduct, analyze, and report results of various types of human factors studies, including formative and summative validation studies, as guided by regulatory requirements in the US (and abroad)
  • Evaluate user interactions in terms of usability and safety by identifying and assessing relevant factors like physical, cognitive, environmental, and cultural characteristics
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and apply human factors techniques in fast paced environments as well as in long-term development schedules, adjusting the approach to fit the scope of each project
  • Interact with sales teams and clients to support prospective client meetings, prepare sales materials, and champion the user-centered research and design approach
  • Aid proposal efforts by helping to plan and schedule the human factors activities that will best support the project goals
  • Apply your understanding of the human factors regulatory landscape to projects and teams of all types - and dig deeper when needed


REQUIREMENTS

  • 3-5 years of practical experience contributing to human factors activities in the development of regulated physical and digital medical devices and technology
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% time
  • Experience in HF planning for regulated medical products
  • Strong qualitative study moderation skills (including root cause probing)
  • Flexibility to fit the HF approach to project goals and scope in a fast-paced environment to allow for the best results within the constraints
  • Ability to develop and execute sound research methodology, including formative and summative protocol development, and experience of leading preliminary human factors analyses such as task analyses and risk assessments
  • Ability to collaborate in the development of appropriate stimuli for user studies
  • Secondary research skills including literature review, competitive analysis, and claims analysis
  • Strong understanding of medical regulatory HF requirements and practices
  • Manage outside vendors for participant recruiting, research facilities, and related research services
  • Data collection and analysis including report writing, documenting analysis methods, and results
  • Ability to translate results into actionable design requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional candidates will also have demonstrated experience in some of the areas below
    • Experience applying human factors and usability in a multi-disciplinary engineering and design environment
    • Degree in Human Factors or equivalent discipline area, advanced degree preferred
    • Working knowledge of human factors/usability engineering standards, for example IEC 62366, ANSI HE75, ISO 14971, EU MDR, IVDR, and FDA guidance
    • Experience working within a product-development consulting environment, medical device, or pharmaceutical company
    • Experience across a breadth of products and systems (medical, consumer, industrial)
    • Experience evaluating and developing digital and information design
    • Experience evaluating physical ergonomics
    • Experience supporting business development activities
    • Experience designing and executing quantitative/mixed method research
