JOB PURPOSE: To underwrite new and renewal business according to authority level and established guidelines, establish and maintain broker relationships, participate in special projects, and provide mentoring for less experienced staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage assigned underwriting brokers by managing a book of renewal business as well as writing new business primarily focused on Architects & Engineers (A&E), Contractors Professional, Real Estate Developers Professional and Miscellaneous Professional Liability (MPL), that is consistent with Argo’s focus on profitable growth.
  • Build and manage strong, productive, and profitable relationships with agency partners, and participate in the appointment of agents.
  • Contribute to our marketing initiatives and provide consistent communication of our A&E, Contractors, Real Estate Developers and MPL products and services to appointed brokers.
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection process to ensure the organization has the necessary talent to accomplish business goals.
  • Collaborate with other departments to resolve issues and generate business efficiencies.
  • Liaise with internal/external auditors.
  • Plan strategic initiatives to develop A&E, Contractors, Real Estate Developers and MPL policies, guidelines, product development, and data quality.
  • Travel to meet with brokers and engage in marketing as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or five plus years related insurance experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years underwriting experience with authority, preferably in excess and surplus lines.
  • Clear understanding of the Professional Lines/E&O marketplace.
  • Proven track record of driving profitable growth.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent working rapport with brokerage community.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Advanced working knowledge of computer programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
