Job Description:

Essential Job Functions

  • Play lead technical role in maintaining or modifying database(s) in production. Track system availability, uptime, and performance. Confer with less experienced DBAs and guide their efforts in maintaining databases.
  • Confer with application development staff or project management staff regarding project planning, resource allocation, task definitions and schedules for substantial projects involving database(s).
  • Plan and design database changes necessary for data conversion, tool configuration, data refresh or migration or other initiatives related to large application development project.
  • Troubleshoot or confer with others troubleshooting errors or production problems involving databases to determine causes and proposed solutions.
  • Set and document standards for use of databases with objectives of data integrity, data security, efficient operation, audit requirements, and the like. Communicate to others in development or database administration roles.
  • Confer with managers in networking, systems operations, applications, and client/user community to maintain stable and efficient operating environment for database(s).
  • May provide technical lead, project leadership or staff supervision in large development, migration, testing, acceptance or product rollout project.
  • Experience with multiple Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) including but not limited to: Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience in Big Data technologies: Hive, NoSQL, Hadoop
  • Build database systems of high availability and quality depending on each end user specialized role.
  • Design and implement database in accordance to end users information needs and views.
  • Plan, design, implement, support for database structures conduct database performance monitoring and tuning.
  • Database Audit Management, Installation, Configuration, and Monitoring of all Oracle/PostgreSQL Databases.
  • Configuration of databases backup and recovery.
  • Configuration and Monitoring DR Replication for high availability.
  • Monitoring databases capacity using Oracle grid control OEM.
  • Administer and support multiple cluster, Non-cluster and automatic storage management databases in production, development and testing servers in UNIX, Linux and Solaris Environment.
  • Monitor new alert log entries, objects validity and usage for any issues including ORA-600 errors, frequency of log switches, and archiving status to report issues and seek resolution.
  • Perform SQL/PGSQL code reviews to ensure performance and availability.
  • Write and document SQL/PLSQL, UNIX Shell Scripting, and storage management systems for monitoring space, extent growth, and automate daily maintenance jobs.
  • Tuning application SQL queries for better performance.
  • Implement and configure database replication, RMAN backup, including Full, incremental, cumulative, recovery, incomplete recovery, and disaster recovery using Data Guard.
  • Gather and analyze database objects, and generate statistics periodically to recommend modifications and database optimization.


Basic Qualifications

  • 8 years of experience with design and development of Oracle RDBMS in a multi-terabyte Data Warehouse environment.
  • 6 years of data modeling (relational and logical) experience with design, performance tuning, backup/recovery, and scalability/capacity planning, in addition to SQL, PL/SQL, and UNIX shell scripting.
