Job Title: Senior Mortality Management Analyst

Location: Remote

Job Summary: Under general direction of VP, Strategic Risk and Mortality Management, work as a liaison between Underwriting Leadership, Medical Directors, Claims Management, Legal and reinsurers to ensure the expected mortality results of the Sammons Financial Group (SFG) member companies are met. Provide independent oversight of our risk selection processes in underwriting and claims. Provide expertise on underwriting and mortality related issues in order to make recommendations to our underwriting guidelines or procedures.

Essential Functions:

  • Complete audits and other studies of mortality-related activities of SFG in order to monitor and measure adherence to the guidelines and procedures assumed in product pricing including forensic auditing of accelerated processes as well as individual underwriter audits. Regularly communicate forensic auditing results with reinsurance partners.
  • Partner with Underwriting leadership and Medical Directors to provide feedback and recommendations from audits and claims for training needs and updates to standard operating procedures (SOP). Review SOPs for content approval from Production Underwriting, as needed.
  • Responsible for ensuring the timely completion of the review of all early duration claims and the analysis of trends; partner with Legal and Claims Management on depositions.
  • Participate in reviewing, testing and analyzing procedures, guidelines and strategic underwriting opportunities related to Underwriting and Mortality Management, and provide expertise in support of change initiatives.
  • Provide mortality management oversight of data warehouse initiatives; support efforts to use data to develop leading indicators of mortality.
  • Research and stay abreast of industry trends in underwriting methodologies, risk selection requirements, tools and technology in order to understand their impact on mortality and acquire and expand medical and non-medical knowledge to fairly evaluate audits and claims; provide advice to management on developments which need to be addressed in the underwriting and risk management process.
  • Provide feedback to our Experience Actuarial team.
  • Participate in creation of the annual Executive Risk Management Mortality report.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or equivalent business experience preferred
  • Minimum 10 years' Underwriting experience preferred
  • Audit and contestable claims review experience preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of risk selection is essential
  • Ability to interpret EKGs preferred
  • Fellowship in the Academy of Life Underwriters preferred
  • Possess excellent organizational and project management skills, with ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously
  • Demonstrated strong ability to evaluate underwriting decisions and quantify the probability of their impact to mortality
  • Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to professionally and effectively interface with all layers of management and staff
  • Proficient in use of PC software (MS Word, Excel or equivalent)
  • Criminal background check required.
  • $75,248 - $156,766 - Range includes data points from multiple labor markets. Specific range is dependent on the labor market where the incumbent will be hired to perform the position. Starting salary is dependent on candidate qualifications and experience. For a narrower salary range specific to your labor market, please inquire.
