This position is a remote eligible position. You can choose to work at a remote location or at one of Redfin's headquarter locations (Seattle, San Francisco, or Dallas).

The Production Engineering team is responsible for all the infrastructure's foundation (network, storage, database, compute) that empower Redfin. Throw in networking, caching, and database performance tuning & capacity scaling and you'll have a small glimpse into the breadth of technologies we work on. We are currently re-architecting most of our existing infrastructure and we want you to help lead the way!

Responsibilities:

Responsible for defining & implementing database architecture with a focus on reliability, throughput, scalability, and security.

Build observability to proactively detect and prevent performance issues.

Perform On-Prem/Cloud DBA duties in non-production and production environments, such as upgrade, backup, recovery, and migration.

Maintain configuration of DB instances including replication setup, parameter settings, and identification of appropriate instance types/sizes.

High availability and disaster recovery planning/drills. The ideal candidate must have cloud database engineering experience with both Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS) in an enterprise cloud environment.

Familiarity and proficiency in all aspects of designing, sizing, and implementing SQL instances, storage and RDMS for AWS storage (Cloud Tiering Service to S3 - Net App, Simple Storage Service (S3), S3 Glacier), monitoring/logging (Quicksight, Eventbridge, Simple Notification Service (SNS), networking (Virtual Private Cloud, Route 53, API Gateway, Direct Connect etc.)

Monitor user access and performance of the database systems, provide incident support and analysis services, provide log and error reporting information to colleagues, customer, and support organizations as necessary to resolve user impacting issues.

Engage with engineering teams to gather infrastructure and database platform requirements and transform them into functional solutions within AWS or other cloud service provider environments as required by Oz.

Writing new support programs and scripts to increase data storage capacity.

Reviewing database and user reports, as well as system information.

Performing debugging procedures on database scripts and programs, as well as resolving conflicts.

Mentoring application teams and providing them with technical support.

General Linux system administration: configuration, installs, monitoring, etc.

Design and build tools/install architecture to manage every phase of the build and deploy process.

Participate in a periodic on-call rotation.

Adhering to best practices in securely storing, backing up, and archiving data.

Documenting processes related to database design, configuration, and performance.

Keeping abreast of developments and best practices in database engineering.

Requirements:

Understanding the what/why/how of infrastructure protocols and architecture.

Strong expertise and development skills in building, scaling, and supporting database technologies (Postgres, event streaming, caching).

Experience with database performance tuning, troubleshooting database, and performance issues.

Ability to build tooling for common DBA processes.

Love to Automate (Puppet, Chef, Terraform).

Experience working in an Agile environment and production infrastructure on call.

Experience with Linux administration and Linux scripting. (3+ years).

Experience with shell scripting and Python/Ruby script development.

Understanding of operating systems, storage, and networking.

Understanding of continuous delivery and deployment.

Nice to have:

Certified in AWS.

Experience in Software or Systems Development.

Expertise in RDS (Postgres) databases and Non-Relational databases such as (Redis, Snowflake).

Starting Base Salary: $134,100.00 - 148,200.00. Actual starting base salary will depend on varying circumstances, including individual qualifications, market finances, and other operational business needs.

- Potential for quarterly bonuses based on company performance.

- Potential for merit increases and stock grants based on performance.
