Job Summary
The Senior Database Administrator will be responsible for performing complex database administration and integration assignments essential to the implementation and operation of database systems and applications running on SQL Server and Windows server platforms. Assignments and duties, which are in direct support of software development and maintenance teams, include database analysis, database modeling, database information assurance and security, database installation, database configuration, and database performance monitoring and tuning. This individual will also support Always On implementation providing High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) for production environment. Provides support on a M-F business hours schedule, and is also responsible for on-call, extended hour, and weekend support as required by mission specific or emergency situations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• SQL Server installation and upgrades. Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems
• Work with application development team to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
• Provide technical support of database environments/applications, including software installation, database creation, upgrades, patches, problem diagnosis, performance monitoring, database maintenance, process automation, evaluation, and tuning recommendations; develop, implement and support backup/restore, disaster recovery and data replication procedures and exercises
• Participate in all aspects of the lifecycle for database environments; participate in the implementation of application requested database code and configuration changes in supported database environments
• Participate in the creation of new policies, procedures, projects and processes
• Evaluate, document, and recommend database-related software products within technical architecture framework
• Interact with various technology teams regarding work requests submitted, participate in the creation of new policies, procedures, projects, processes and participate in all aspects of the lifecycle for database environments
• Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to databases.
• Mentor and provide guidance to Database Administrator I and II members of the team as needed.
• Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems, troubleshoot SQL Server service outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekends
• Other duties as assigned
Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• Bachelors degree in Information Systems, Computer Engineering or related field
• 3 or more years of experience in administering and managing large databases in complex enterprise environments, primarily involved in supporting Microsoft SQL Servers
• 3 or more years of experience in database server installation and upgrade, backup and recovery, data server migration, database maintenance and support, release management, troubleshooting, performance tuning.
• 3 or more years of experience and proficient working knowledge of Microsoft SQL servers
• 1 or more years of Microsoft Windows Clustering and SQL Server AlwaysOn design, maintenance and troubleshooting
• 1 or more years of cloud-based experience such as SQL Server in Microsoft Azure, AWS or equivalent platform
• 1 or more years of experience in Financial Services, Payroll or related business
• 1 or more years of experience in Agile Application Development & Scrum methodologies preferred
• A continuous improvement mindset is valued with a strong orientation for business process discipline
• Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, including good technical writing and interpersonal skills
• Flexible, team player, "get-it-done" personality
