Job Summary
The Database Administrator II monitors, maintains, and performance tunes databases while helping to ensure high levels of data availability. This position is also responsible for scripting deployments and tuning SQL with the oversight of the Senior Database Administrator(s), Principal Database Administrator(s) or Senior Manager, Database Administration as applicable. This individual will also support Always On implementation providing High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) for production environment when required and with oversight. Provides backup support as required on a M-F business hours schedule, and is also responsible for occasional backup for on-call, extended hour, and weekend support as required by mission specific or emergency situations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Create deployment scripts for releases
- Document database schema changes and data relationships
- SQL Server installation and upgrades in non-production environments
- Respond to and resolve database performance issues in non-production environments
- Monitor database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements.
- Review schema and database object changes (Stored Procedure, View, Function, etc.) from development team prior to QA deployment with the oversight of the Senior Database Administrator(s), Principal Database Administrator(s) or Senior Manager, Database Administration as applicable.
- Create required reports in response to business user needs
- Perform database transaction and security audits
- Assist in the database design and creation
- Proactive database monitoring for availability and performance
- Ensure proper backups
- Performance tuning
- Provide database consultation to application development teams
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Bachelors degree in Information Systems, Computer Engineering or related field
- 2 or more years of experience in SQL programming and query performance tuning
- 2 or more years of experience in database administration activities, such as user administration, backups/restores, SQL installation
- 1 or more years of experience in Financial Services, Payroll or related business preferred
- 1 or more years of experience in Agile Application Development & Scrum methodologies preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Well organized with good time management skills
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and client focus
- A continuous improvement mindset is valued with a strong orientation for business process discipline
- Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, including good technical writing and interpersonal skills
- Flexible, team player, "get-it-done" personality
