Our database administration team performs database and production operational functions in support of an enterprise SQL Server environment. We are looking for a Sr. Database Administrator with expertise in all features of SQL Server, including database management, Integration Services, Reporting Services, Analysis Services, Clustering, and Always On Availability Groups. This position will be interfacing with multiple business stakeholders to meet critical objectives, and we are seeking a candidate that is able to work independently with strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, prioritize, and deliver on multiple, concurrent enterprise database initiatives
  • Normalize installation, configuration, and management of database servers across the enterprise
  • Standardize SQL Server software versions and implement life cycle management
  • Implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions in support of critical applications
  • Assess the health of the database environment, troubleshoot issues, and determine course of action for resolution
  • Review and manage database security using role based permissions
  • Perform capacity planning to support business growth
  • Document and maintain database standards and procedures
  • Assess database software tools
  • Convert and integrate SQL Server jobs into an enterprise job scheduler
  • Support application development in the deployment of code changes into production
  • Create and document processes and procedures related to the security of PII and PHI data in accordance with compliance objectives
  • Document and implement data retention policies and procedures based on legal, compliance, and business requirements
  • Effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, to both technical and non-technical teams, and all levels of management

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or proven work experience. Technical training and some college will be considered
  • 7+ years of Database Administration experience in SQL Server
  • 3+ years of SQL Server Always On experience
  • 3+ years of SQL language and Transact-SQL experience
  • 2+ years of SQL Server Integration Systems (SSIS) experience
  • 2+ years of SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) experience
  • Experience working with SQL Server 2012 thru 2019
  • Must be able to clearly communicate in writing and orally to both technical and non-technical teams, and all levels of management


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SQL Server Analysis Services
  • Experience with SQL Server on a Cloud platform
  • Experience automating processes with PowerShell
  • Experience managing data source connections in Tableau
  • Experience working with job schedulers outside of SQL Agent
  • Experience working with healthcare data
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Visio and Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Thorough troubleshooting and debugging skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to multi-task on several projects
  • Ability to quickly absorb and understand complex technical requirements
  • Ability to determine system requirements based on business needs
  • Ability to facilitate dialog across functional areas and provide consultative direction
  • Ability to troubleshoot configuration and performance issues
  • Solid analytical skills

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $82,100 to $146,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $90,500 to $161,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
