Position Description
The Data Engineer is responsible for owning, implementing, and managing the data infrastructure supporting hospital and retail pharmacy data sets. The Data Engineer works in a collaborative team environment to assess requirements, define technical strategy and deliver solutions ultimately helping the McKesson Data Services team migrate data solutions to new cloud infrastructure, as well as the management of this system once migrated. The Data Engineer must also have a vision for proper data management, system design and will help drive strategies around implementing and improving data activities utilizing modern tools.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide thought leadership to drive strategies for improved data structures and processes
  • Develop modern data warehouse systems to support data analytics and reporting
  • Drive data modeling, architecture and data integration tasks
  • Demonstrate the ability to implement complex data transformations, particularly in migrating transformation tasks from one system to another
  • Contribute substantially to the hands-on work of developing these solutions
  • Prioritize development and other tasks with limited direction
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, team leaders and consultants to assist in the execution of business strategies
  • Ability to mentor and coach more junior data engineers
  • Participate in code reviews
  • Demonstrate a passion to learn and grow

Minimum Requirements
  • 7+ years of experience in data design, implementation, SQL query development and tuning. Oracle or Snowflake a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in data warehouse with a focus on implementing ELT/ETL systems
  • Excellent communication both written and verbal

Critical Skills
  • Must have strong data analysis skills and a deep understanding of database management systems. Oracle, Snowflake preferred
  • Must be capable of translating complex data transformations from Oracle to modern cloud data solutions
  • Proven experience interpreting business requirements into long-term architectural solutions
  • Experience defining, and building dimensional databases from the ground up
  • Strong understanding of ETL / ELT processes
  • Experience working with ETL / ELT tools

Additional Knowledge & Skills
  • Must be comfortable working with large and/or complex databases
  • Experience with cloud-based solutions with Microsoft Azure and/or Snowflake a plus.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, deidentification or other healthcare industry areas a plus.

Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, similar areas or job experience
