All employees either must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, initiate vaccination before your start date, or file an exemption request prior to start date per company policy for review. Due to the uncertainty of COVID-19, all Civis offices are closed and employees are remote until further notice. This is being closely monitored as the situation evolves. Although it’s likely our offices will reopen, positions hired outside of Civis office locations will be remote roles.

Responsibilities

• Helping to design, build, document, evaluate, and maintain data pipelines
• Coordinating with engineers, data scientists, a product manager, and a designer on a cross-functional team to develop data assets and tools
• Providing technical mentorship to junior employees (e.g., via code review and design discussions)
• Following and promoting best practices with respect to engineering standards, including data privacy and security

Minimum Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a data engineer or in similar roles, including experience taking a leading role in significant technical projects
• Substantial work experience with SQL and Python

Preferred Qualifications

• Significant experience with any of the following technical topics:
• Amazon Redshift
• Data tools in Python (e.g., Pandas, NumPy)
• Workflow management (e.g., dbt, airflow)
• Google BigQuery
• Apache Spark/PySpark
• Experience working with political data
• Graduate degree in Computer Science or related subject
