Senior Data Engineer

Chewy is seeking a talented and motivated Senior Data Engineer to join a growing technology team in Boston, MA, or Minneapolis, MN. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be instrumental in innovating; helping design, develop and test frameworks and data pipelines that provide solutions for several business and technology initiatives. What You’ll Do:
- Develop in-depth knowledge of several Chewy business processes and systems and utilize this knowledge to write simple and sustainable code
- Develop, deploy, evaluate, and refine data pipelines at scale in a production environment
- Implement data-driven solutions using tools such as Hadoop, Hive, Spark, and Kafka
- Explore structured/unstructured data sources and deliver ‘quick wins’ by building robust data pipelines
- Champion quality initiatives and best practices to enable the team to continue to develop high quality, maintainable, and performant code
- Contribute to documentation on design, architecture, and standards/best practices
- Review code and give meaningful feedback that helps others build better solutions
- Actively mentor engineers, build and foster a strong engineering team culture, and be a key contributor in raising the bar of the engineering org.
What You’ll Need:
- Strong knowledge and experience developing and supporting data pipelines at scale
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills
- 8+ years of active development experience with Python, Spark, Hive, Kafka
- 4+ years of experience in relational database and No-SQL development
- 6+ years of experience with a focus on Big Data, data warehousing, and near real time data ingestion and analytics
- Experience performing analytics to solve complex business problems
- Experience building and scaling applications in the cloud
- Experience working across fully automated stacks in a CI/CD ecosystem
- Must be team oriented and have a customer first mindset
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
Bonus:
- Exposure to working in e-commerce
- Experience with the AWS ecosystem
- Experience taking a project from inception through launch. Includes influencing the vision, communicating with leadership, stakeholders, and technical teams to disambiguate requirements, describe product features, and produce technical design documents
