We then apply these things via research studies, clinical trials, and pilot programs that identify new ways to prevent, detect, and intercept disease for our members.
This position is intended for a data analyst with an interest in innovation in healthcare research. UHG R&D works on partnering with internal and external healthcare organizations to develop and pilot healthcare solution, including innovative care models and clinical pathways, for our members. This position will be responsible for providing data analytics to support UHG R&D's develop team in pioneering these innovative programs.
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, code and execute programs to extract, aggregate and manipulate pharmacy and medical claims from various sources in support of scientific and product development research
  • Develop new and maintain existing SAS programs to analyze healthcare claims to support ad hoc data requests
  • Transform data and/or develop insights for use in business decisions
  • Develop methods, perform statistical analysis, and generate reports to answer research questions
  • Perform data quality control checks on code and deliverables
  • Participate in interpretation business requirements and create technical specifications
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing, ideas and information relating to data analyses

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years of experience in SAS, R, Stata, Matlab, SPSS, or similar
  • 5+ years of experience with SQL
  • 2+ years of healthcare experience
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential requirement of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate COVID-19 booster doses must also comply with those state requirements. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination, and boosters when applicable, prior to employment to ensure compliance


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, data analytics or related field
  • Experience working with medical and pharmacy claims
  • Experience with relational databases, and database structures and data analysis
  • Experience thinking critically and interpret results for business applications
  • Experience with Microsoft tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Team player with track record of collaboration with colleagues
