Senior Analyst, Business Strategy | Trust & Advisory Practice
Location: Willing to consider candidates in any U.S. city
Northern Trust Wealth Management is seeking to hire a Senior Analyst, Business Strategy for a dual-role supporting the Northern Trust Institute and Business Advisory Services teams. This is national role and will provide the candidate with the opportunity for career advancement within Northern Trust and exposure to senior leadership, local offices, business development initiatives, investment banking advisors and private business transactions.
Role Description
Support Northern Trust Wealth Management's Director of Business Services in building upon Northern Trust's expertise and resources across multiple disciplines to continue to deliver comprehensive and timely advice to Northern Trust's business owner and entrepreneur clients and their families. Specifically, the Senior Analyst, Business Strategy will assist the Director of Business Services in developing national strategies for strengthening our relationship with business owners and entrepreneurs, researching and developing thought leadership for articles and events, work closely with key office across the country on executing their specific strategic plans, and leading project initiatives to support the evolving needs of the Northern Trust Institute.
The Senior Analyst, Business Strategy will also support Northern Trust Wealth Management's Business Advisory Services (BAS) team. Business Advisory Services is a national M&A consulting team that provides advisory services to owners of privately-held companies to support them in preparing their businesses for a sale. BAS works with business owners, their management teams and, in many cases, other family members and advisors to develop succession, liquidity and exit plans, as well as to prepare for and execute strategic divestitures. Typically this includes supporting clients as they hire outside advisors such as investment banks, lawyers and accountants.
Responsibilities include:
• Active participation in internal discussions around marketing, strategy, and execution of business plan nationally and for specific, high-growth markets
• Helping to develop and maintain a comprehensive internal set of data metrics to quantify the impact of strategic initiatives
• Developing presentations for internal discussions and external client meetings
• Compiling key business owner data (e.g., transaction multiples, league tables) and remaining up to date on the latest news, topics and trends relevant to business owners
• Helping to prepare external marketing materials, including case studies and tear sheets
• Direct interaction with senior management and collaboration across Northern Trust teams (Banking, Fiduciary, Wealth Planning, Marketing, etc.)
• Researching and preparing profiles on industries, companies, investment banks and other advisors in order to assist the team in identifying, evaluating and engaging transaction advisors
• Advocate for and represent the Northern Trust Institute and Business Advisory Services internally to Wealth Management partners and externally to potential clients and industry professionals
• Lead due diligence discussions with private business executives to quickly understand business operations and financial profiles of private businesses in order to draft executive summaries on the businesses we engage
• Maintaining transaction logs and other databases (e.g., SalesForce) throughout the transaction process for the sale of a business owner's business
• Attending client meetings and investment banking pitches as appropriate
Experience
• College degree and 1-3 years of work experience in a related field (e.g., finance, wealth management, investment banking, tax, consulting, accounting)
• Good understanding of financials statement, standard accounting practices, and the investment banking landscape
• Ability to think strategically, work independently, conduct research, manage multiple projects, and collaborate effectively with internal and external teams
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills, including proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint
• Interest in learning more about business owner issues, entrepreneurship, investment banking, mergers and acquisitions, financial modeling, valuation and other related topics
• Understanding of salesforce, Pitchbook, CapIQ, financials statements, and mergers and acquisitions processes is a plus
