Amplify Learning is looking for a Psychometrician to join our Research and Measurement Team. The Psychometrician will deploy leading-edge measurement techniques to support effective and differentiated instruction. The ideal candidate will help us identify and/or develop new psychometric models and methodologies for diagnosing student needs, measuring growth, and deploying those new methods in the education domain. If you are a psychometrics specialist with a deep background in modern assessment methodologies who is passionate about improving educational outcomes for all students, we want to hear from you.
Responsibilities of the Psychometrician:

  • Support and help advise the design of research projects, not limited to: the design and conduct of classical and IRT item analyses, equating studies, validity and efficacy studies, sampling plans, using pilot data in support of research and content design, and special statistical analyses.
  • Collaborate with domain specialists to develop frameworks for modeling student achievement and growth for specific curricular units
  • Offer guidance in the development of complex assessment tasks
  • Prototype and build measurement models for software
  • Find opportunities to employ new methodologies in curriculum development and share findings with relevant partners
  • Build wide-ranging audience reports and deliver presentations that describe technical characteristics and complexities of assessments
  • Provide technical leadership deploying robust psychometric models and analytic techniques as new requirements and architectures evolve;
  • Collaborate with UX/UI designers and software engineers in the construction of user-facing reports in educational products.


Basic Qualifications of the Psychometrician:

  • Ph.D. in a relevant field (Quantitative Psychology, Statistics, Educational Measurement, etc.)
  • 2+ years of applied knowledge of the foundations of psychometrics including classical test theory, item response theory, structural equation modeling, mixed-effects modeling
  • Familiarity with Bayesian methods
  • Familiarity with methods for causal inference
  • Knowledge and interest in applications of machine learning to measurement
  • Knowledge of at least one scientific programming environment: R, Python, Stata, Matlab scripting


Preferred Qualifications of the Psychometrician:

  • Experience in developing formative assessments
  • Experience collaborating with multi-functional teams and subject matter specialists.
  • Experience building reports for and addressing both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to deliver expert solutions for real world applications
  • Knowledge of Diagnostic Classification Models and MIRT
  • Proven application of software development methodology and protocols
