Principle Architect - Data (Position is Remote)

Position Summary :

Pearson Virtual Schools is on the lookout for inspired software professionals who can break down the world into objects and classes and can't wait to try something new. We want individuals who are excited to solve old problems in new ways, and who think in terms of scalability, efficiency, and practicality.

Working remotely, the Software Architect (Data) is responsible for the strategic technological leadership and design the transformation of our enterprise C# Web application into a native cloud application with an emphasis on architecture, scalability, security, and performance.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Formulate and drive major architectural decisions while overseeing Software Engineering solutions with a focus on data storage and transport;
  • Design applications and overall system architecture by applying existing and suggesting the new cloud-oriented technologies; evaluating solution alternatives; developing prototypes; employing multi-region, scalable, and multimedia applications; and completing documentation;
  • Assist and mentor Software Engineers and Software Architects by providing guidance, technical insight, recommendations and technical requirements;
  • Ensure that the architectural solution best address the business's goals from both the functional and technical standpoint;
  • Perform code reviews with considerations on scalability, HA/DR, performance, code efficiency, cost, and architectural approach;
  • Guide and document development policies, procedures, and standards.


General Responsibilities :

  • Work closely with the other Software Architects in the planning and implementation of long-term architectural initiatives;
  • Help resolving occasional system issues, including during off hours and as part of the on-call team;
  • Maintain technical knowledge and understanding of the latest development methodologies by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations; and
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements :

The individual in this position will be working with business stakeholders and teams of engineers.

  • At least 10 years' experience designing and developing object-oriented Web applications with at least 5 years using Microsoft technologies;
  • Experience in designing scalable, highly available, disaster recoverable, large, and robust enterprise applications in the Azure and/or AWS cloud environments.
  • Deep understanding of data models, data transport, and data optimization.
  • Experience with integrating heterogeneous systems involving ETL and orchestration;
  • Exceptional understanding of service oriented architectures;
  • Exceptional understanding of the heterogeneous cloud-based and distributed architectures;
  • Ability to work with limited guidance to reach desired solutions through collaboration with colleagues.
  • Ability to engage in senior level technology decision maker discussions related to agility, business value, and end to end information technology;
  • Understanding of both key Microsoft products and available competitive alternatives;
  • Experience with designing and implementing n-tier solutions;
  • Extensive knowledge of software and cloud design patterns;
  • Extensive experience analyzing business requirements, recommending (and delivering proof of concept) technical solutions from a build/buy/borrow perspective, and writing technical specifications for high-utilization enterprise web applications;
  • The ability to simultaneously handle multiple functions including:
  • Monitoring technical solutions across multiple projects;
  • Writing code;
  • Performing code and high-level approach reviews;
  • Writing technical requirements;
  • The ability to demonstrate work experience by providing examples, samples, and source code.

As required by theColorado Equal Pay Transparency Act. Pearson provides a reasonable range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the state of Colorado only , the range of starting pay for this role is $98K to $170k and information on benefits offered is here.
