Job Description
Team
The Security Research team produces investigative reports that drive a reduction in operational security risk. Paired with a toolkit of code/program and dynamic environmental analysis skills, Security Research provides guidance on primary security controls, best practices, and product enhancement. Exploration techniques focus on problems broadly, measuring industry trends and product insecurity across ServiceNow's cloud environment. A goal of the Research team is to continually drive ServiceNow's reputation as a leader in cloud security.
Role
As a Principal Security Research Scientist, you'll be responsible for performing analysis of industry trends / vulnerabilities and supplying analysis to the general public. This will require an in-depth knowledge of various approaches to application auditing including code review, Java reverse engineering, exploit development and threat modeling. Analysis will be supplied via blogging, technical publication, social media, security presentations and other forums.
What you get to do in this role:
- Perform security audits to discover, communicate, and recommend remediation activities for vulnerabilities
- Proactively research and quantify new industry trends and attack vectors that may affect ServiceNow
- Research security topics which are a risk to ServiceNow
- Work with engineering teams on platform roadmap planning
Qualifications
In order to be successful in this role, we need someone who has:
- A passion for security and problem solving
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to mixed level audiences.
- Background in software security auditing, computer security and statistical methods
- Prior research publication (public-sector), talk acceptance at major security conferences and vulnerability disclosure publication (CVEs and advisories).
- 7+ years of experience performing software security auditing including code review, thick app analysis, and black-box web application testing
- 4+ years of experience performing threat modeling for software products
- 1-2 years of experience with binary analysis, reverse engineering, debugging, and binary instrumentations (preferably with Java applications)
- Developer level proficiency in Python, Java, and JavaScript, including modern client-side JavaScript frameworks
- Experience writing static code analysis rules a plus
- Experience with Python data science and machine learning frameworks a plus
- Network and system security engineering skills recommended
- Degree in computer science / engineering, informatics, mathematics/statistics, or equivalent work experience
- Offensive Security OSWE and/or OSCP certification(s) a plus

A flexible work persona is defined as an employee who is contracted to work from or aligned to a ServiceNow-affiliated office and will work from their assigned workplace location roughly 3 days/week or less (generally around 40-60% of the work week). Flexible employees may choose to work the remaining working time from their workplace location or home. Flexible employees are required to work within their state, province, region, or country of employment.
Remote
A remote work persona is defined as an employee who performs their responsibilities exclusively outside of a ServiceNow workplace and is not contracted or aligned to a ServiceNow-affiliated office, including those whose place of work (pursuant to their terms and conditions of employment) is their home. Remote employees are required to work within their state, province, region, or country of employment.
