YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary responsibilities of this role, Location 360 Principal Data Engineer, are to:

  • Be the lead representative for the technical capabilities needed to enable global and enterprise scale geospatial data assets and engineering within Bayer Crop Science, such as environmental, phenotyping, remote sensing, imagery, geopolitical, and operational data and processes;
  • Influence the core technical tools and architecture across engineering teams driving digital transformation at Bayer;
  • Define, design, and engineer the standards, tooling and practices required to ensure engineering excellence across all geospatial data products;
  • Be accountable for ensuring our geospatial data assets remain at the forefront of all technical developments needed to drive maximum scale and value for the business;
  • Identify organizational needs based on industry trends and influence business practices and investment accordingly;
  • Partner with technical leaders across Bayer to ensure interoperability of geospatial data assets within the broader ecosystem (genomics data, operational data, customer data, etc.);
  • Be the key engineer solving the most difficult and highest value geospatial technical challenges;
  • Attract, develop, and retain talent through recruitment and public speaking at well-known conferences and venues (i.e. Foss4G, GCP Next, AWS Re-InvenT, etc.);
  • The primary location for this role is Creve Coeur, MO (St. Louis Metro Area), but Residence-Based candidates in the US will also be considered based upon the needs of the business;
  • Visa sponsorship may be offered for this role.



WHO YOU ARE

Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE values. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have one of the following:
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field with at least 13 years professional software engineering experience, or
    • Master's degree with at least 10 years of relevant experience;
  • At least seven years experience engineering data intensive software using streaming and resource based design principles;
  • Strong background working with geospatial data such as: geophysical soil sensing, remote sensing, weather, hydrology, open source frameworks;
  • At least eight years experience engineering in an object oriented or functional language (i.e. Go, Python, Scala or similar);
  • Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring on topics of data modeling or architecture design in distributed data systems, including designing both logical and physical models for datasets;
  • Proven experience providing reliable estimates for large scale projects;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and desire to work in a highly collaborative environment;
  • Ability to work in a matrixed environment, leading & influencing people at varying levels of responsibility;
  • Familiarity with the relevant industry and domain specific relevant trends.
