The Principal Data Scientist, will provide actionable insights and recommendations by uncovering the stories contained in data. This individual will be required to effectively articulate results to internal stakeholders including, but not limited to, member experience, marketing, and leadership. You will need to bring passion for helping people by predicting/identifying consumer needs/pain points and developing innovative solutions to meet/reduce them. Most importantly this individual will need to excel at telling this story and influencing leadership to adopt new ideas, products, and/or approaches to drive value.
Please note: This position is office based in Minnetonka, MN. There is flexibility to work from home.
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage, delegate, and deliver all analytic initiatives and requests prioritized by key business partner
  • Design, measure, and analyze campaign tests and provide strategic recommendations to stakeholders
  • Develop and implement effective/strategic solutions through exploration, analysis, and modeling of data
  • Develop predictive models as needed to support campaign optimization
  • Analyze, review, forecast, trend, and model big and complex data

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Business, or similar field
  • 5+ years of experience utilizing analytic tools (such as R, Python, SAS, SQL, etc.)
  • 5+ years of experience performing, managing, and delivering on analytic projects/initiatives
  • Professional experience with statistical modeling
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential requirement of this role. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination prior to employment to ensure compliance


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or greater in quantitative field
  • 2+ years of experience managing direct reports in the analytics/data science space
  • Professional experience with applying machine learning techniques
  • Healthcare industry experience
  • Professional experience with big data
  • Professional experience utilizing analytic tools in a distributed data environment
