About the job
Red Hat's Enterprise Data and Analytics (EDA) team is looking for a talented Principal Data Platform Engineer to join our team and help manage and modernize our current data lake infrastructure. This platform currently provides enterprise data storage and enables data retrieval to thousands of users and applications across Red Hat. In this role you will develop, implement, and maintain data lakehouse platform features and operational KPIs for the platform to maximize customer experience. This includes designing the strategy for migrating existing warehouse data into the data lakehouse. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.
What you will do

  • Design and evaluate data lakehouse platform technologies to meet business requirements
  • Develop roadmap for migrating to the data lakehouse
  • Monitor the health and operations of the platform
  • Plan and coordinate system upgrades
  • Serve as platform subject matter expert
  • Develop and publish best practices documentation
  • Provide tier 3 operational support for the platform
  • Engage with stakeholders on how to utilize responsible technologies


What you will bring

  • 7+ years of experience in data warehousing
  • Solid programming experience using one or more languages like Python, Scala, Java, C++, and Rust
  • Solid experience with Apache Spark
  • Desire to learn new things and stay up-to-date with modern technologies and frameworks
  • SQL query and performance tuning expertise
  • Experience with a cloud data warehouse platform, e.g., Amazon Redshift, Snowflake, Google BigQuery
  • Experience developing or deploying applications with Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) technologies like Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform or Kubernetes
  • Traditional relational database (RDBMS) experience


The following are considered a plus:

  • Experience with Presto, Trino, or Starburst data virtualization
  • Experience with streaming technologies like Apache Kafka or Spark structured streaming
  • Familiarity with Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) or microservice architecture
