Job Summary
Physical Sciences Laboratories (PSL)has more than 100 specialized laboratories used to test, analyze, and troubleshoot virtually every aspect of rocket and satellite system design, development, construction, deployment, and operation. The diverse expertise of the laboratories' technical staff allows PSL to stay abreast of new technological developments and program support issues associated with rapidly evolving space systems.
The Microelectronics Technology Department (MTD) conducts basic and applied research in microelectronic and optoelectronic devices for space applications, and provides technical support to national security space programs in these areas. The MTD is seeking a senior member of the technical staff to support investigations of microelectronics reliability, security, and physics of failure in advanced devices, materials, and processes for space applications. This is a full-time position based in El Segundo, CA.
What You'll Be Doing
- You will serve National Space Security programs by providing microelectronics technology and reliability assessments
- S/he will serve short term needs by performing failure analysis for anomaly resolution and long-term needs by developing improved capabilities for analysis
- The staff member will perform materials and device characterization to identify root cause of failure by various techniques including x-ray computed tomography and focused ion beam analysis, and support investigations of security, reliability, and physics of failure in advanced materials and technology for space applications.
- As the Microelectronics Failure Analysis Scientist, you will apply and develop software tools for data analysis of x-ray images and computed tomography data sets, electrical test data, and other large datasets to enhance perceptivity of failures and anomalies in devices.
What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
- Master's in electrical engineering, physics, computer science, or material science or equivalent is required
- Typically (5) years' experience in a microelectronics-related industry or applicable professional or educational experience
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to effectively convey technical information to non-technical personnel via oral and written forms
- Understanding of materials and device characterization techniques including (but not limited to) x-ray computed tomography and scanning electron microscopy
- In depth knowledge of integrated circuits and semiconductor physics
- Proficient in MATLAB, C/C++, and/or Python
- This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
- PhD in electrical engineering, physics, chemistry, computer science, or material science is preferred
- Knowledge of electronic device packaging and fabrication is highly desirable
- In depth knowledge of semiconductor failure analysis is a nice-to-have
- Understanding of microanalysis techniques including transmission electron microscopy, focused ion beam, and atomic force microscopy and other techniques that produce large amounts of image data is highly preferred
