Job Summary
Physical Sciences Laboratories (PSL)has more than 100 specialized laboratories used to test, analyze, and troubleshoot virtually every aspect of rocket and satellite system design, development, construction, deployment, and operation. The diverse expertise of the laboratories' technical staff allows PSL to stay abreast of new technological developments and program support issues associated with rapidly evolving space systems.
The Microelectronics Technology Department (MTD) conducts basic and applied research in microelectronic and optoelectronic devices for space applications and provides technical support to National Security Space (NSS) programs. The MTD is looking for a member of the technical staff to support investigations of microelectronics reliability and failure by advanced characterization, simulation, and analysis. This work requires knowledge of fabrication, operation, wear-our mechanisms, and failure modes across a broad range of electronic and optoelectronic devices. He/she will establish and direct both long-term research projects and short-term problem-solving supporting customer needs. This is a full-time position based in El Segundo, CA.
What You'll Be Doing
- Provide technical support to national security space programs in the areas of electronic and optoelectronic device failure analysis
- Operate and develop state of the art capabilities in materials analysis and device characterization using our Ga+ and Xe+ focused ion beam systems and our monochromated and aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscope
- Conduct innovative basic and applied research in reverse engineering, materials analysis, and semiconductor characterization methods and present results both to our direct customers and at scientific meetings and publish research in refereed journals as an independent contributor as well as by collaborating with peers at academic institutions and national laboratories
What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
- Master's in degree in a STEM field or equivalent
- Typically, 5 years of experience in microelectronics fabrication or analysis
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively convey technical information to non-technical personnel via oral and written forms
- In depth knowledge of semiconductor devices and solid-state physics
- Advanced knowledge of semiconductor characterization tools such as focused ion beam and transmission electron microscopy
- This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
- PhD in degree in a STEM field or equivalent
- Typically, 8 years of experience in microelectronics fabrication or analysis
- Proven ability to interact with customers and establish plans for research to address their needs
- Ability to manage failure analysis workflows and other projects
- Knowledge of surface science, electronics defects, and electronic transport measurements in semiconductor devices
- Knowledge of fault isolations techniques such as lock-in thermography, optical beam induced current imaging (OBIC), electron beam induced current (EBIC), passive voltage contrast, etc.
