Responsibilities for this position will include managing a team of experienced database administrators that provide 24/7 support, spanning relational, NoSQL, Big Data and/or data warehousing systems. This position will require frontline oversight of system uptime, performance, architecture and security as well as duties involving planning, budgeting and project management.

The position will work closely with the Director of Data Systems, the other Manager of Database Systems, operating systems managers, the storage manager and AppDev managers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and direction for database and/or data warehousing strategy, including platform, architecture and infrastructure selection in response to ever-changing organizational and development needs
  • Ensure DBAs maintain operational readiness to handle, mitigate and (optimally) prevent service disruption and/or degradation on a 24/7 basis for multiple mission-critical systems
  • Maintain SLAs for service delivery to dozens of AppDev teams and thousands of customers (in and outside the organization), including production support and change control
  • Provide meaningful feedback to team so as to promote productivity, professional development and group cohesion
  • Ensure security, audit and change control compliance in and outside your area of responsibility
  • Maintain and augment policies and procedures relating to database technologies
  • Manage team, technology and multiple vendors in accordance with budget objectives, while always looking for sensible ways to economize
  • Identify and mentor talent to elicit team's stronger contribution and potential for career growth
  • Promote diversity, equity and inclusion in and outside team so that people can be their true selves at work



Skills

Required Experience:

  • 5+ years of leadership (preferably managerial) experience
  • 10+ years of experience in database or data warehousing
  • 10+ years in Production support
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, project management and planning skills



Preferred Experience:

  • 3+ years of application development
  • 3+ years database development



Education

Four-Year College Degree preferably in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering or related field.

Location

This position reports to the Norfolk Southern HQ building in Midtown Atlanta with easy access to MARTA Train & Bus Service and the interstate.
