Job Summary:The Governance team partners with the Product Management and Data Tech Engineering functions of the DMED organization as well as with legal, privacy, information security, and industry groups to ensure consistent, trustworthy data across all of DMED. The group creates strategies designed to ensure quality data that is also secure and compliant with internal and legal standards. The group works with other groups within the DMED technology organization to implement the governance and data quality strategy within platform components, reporting and analytics, tools and compliance standards.
This is a leadership role on the DMED Data Governance team whose mission is to ensure DMED data is compliant and of the highest quality; i.e., complete, accurate, timely, valid, and relevant and promote data quality awareness and excellence across multiple staff profiles to include engineering managers, product managers, product owners, and engineers. This role will work closely with Product and Engineering teams to implement a standard Data Quality and Audit, Balance, and Control framework across a complex technical landscape, providing protection and integrity throughout the product lifecycle and data flows. The Governance team will establish and enhance data management, governance, and quality procedures and practices and provide guidance to product and engineering teams in application of these policies. This role will report to the Senior Manager, Governance-QualityDirector of Data Quality. The Senior Manager, Governance-Quality role will enforce, extend, and execute data management and governance processes and practices in partnership with Data Quality, Privacy, Data Sharing, Product Management, Engineering, Analytics and Data Science teams as well as Privacy, Information Security and Legal.
The Data Governance team defines audit and compliance specifications, guides solution definition with architects, product managers, engineers, and legal, and supports process automation to include requirements for upcoming CPRA legislation, Apple iOS14 ATT implications, Disney Privacy Policy, Records Information Management (RIM) policy, market-specific laws, and others as required. In partnership with the Director of Data Quality, this leader will support definition the Data Stewardship operating model as well as the automated governance process solutions for the future unified platform to include User Onboarding, Data Onboarding, and Data Sharing Request Submission and Approval Processes and Forms as well as Data Retention policies in partnership with Privacy and Legal. The Senior Manager, Governance-Quality will oversee and track the status of the review and approval for the governance processes as well as Disney Security Assessments, Management Audits, and Third-Party Assessments, with Legal, Privacy, Security, and Product Teams. In addition, the Data Governance Manager/Lead will serve as Subject Matter Expert to Product/Infrastructure/Engineering teams for automation solutions and perform stakeholder communications for governance-related items and document Service Level Objectives (SLO) with Data Providers to include requirements, delivery expectations, exception processes, data stewards, and technical contacts.
Responsibilities:

  • Provide team direction and leadership across data with technical and non-technical teams to develop and deploy data quality, compliance and security processes and systems.
  • Manage activities of multiple teams and individual contributors in the data compliance and governance space, working closely with stakeholders and aligning with the strategic direction of data governance strategy
  • Represent the team in discussions with technical and business stakeholders globally as a subject matter expert on our toolkit and roadmap for data protection and consent management.
  • Outline and manage data governance performance and standards, while developing and implementing operating plans to achieve those standards via audits, automation and processes
  • Drive automation opportunities for all governance solutions with product, architecture, and engineering
  • Communicate risk assessment and/or audit findings to management, develop improvements in the design and effectiveness of key controls including automation
  • Develop and maintain team reporting frameworks and documentation for data governance team
  • Develop and deliver training across the organization including the implementation of compliance oriented controls and frameworks to deliver effective data governance processes as directed by legal
  • In this role you will directly contribute to the success of our data strategy by working on data analysis, KPI definitions, data quality gaps, standardized reporting and regulatory frameworks, and the holistic usage and monitoring of data across our organization
  • Contribute to Define Data Quality and Audit, Balance, and Control framework to be implemented by Product and Engineering teams; provide guidance and technical requirements needed for successful implementation. Assess Quality Assurance functions performed by Engineering Teams; complete gap analysis and improvement recommendations.
  • Prioritize, track, and oversee on-going data profiling and data quality activities to include deep dive analysis on large datasets and complex data flows across multiple enterprise applications to include all legacy data platforms across DMED Data Streaming DATA including the Enterprise Permissions Center (EPC), Enterprise Data Platform (EDP), legacy Athena (Online registrations and login data), Enterprise Consumer Data Platform (eCDP), ESPN CDP, DATG CDP, and future data platforms. Evaluate and identify where system enhancements are required to address data quality issues; e.g., code fixes, source system changes, etc. Define business rules and exception handling processes as needed.
  • Define Data Quality KPI’s and metric requirements for a complex environment; define reporting requirements and distribution for all level of audiences and stakeholders
  • Drive data quality issue resolution and collaboration with data providers, data stewards, and recipients to include: DQ improvement plans, communications, and tasks required for DQ initiatives.
  • In partnership with the Senior Manager, Data Governance, identify automation opportunities and standardization of practices and tools for data quality and quality assurance activities



Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Information Systems, or Computer Science
  • 10+ years of experience in data management fundamentals to include governance, stewardship, data quality, metadata management
  • Prior experience leading teams
  • Understanding of regulatory and legal implications for integrated data platforms; e.g., GDPR, CCPA, COPPA, VPPA across complex data architectures
  • Experience defining and implementing governance processes in a highly-complex environment
  • Knowledge of data security approaches and requirements considerations
  • Experience working on enterprise-level initiatives across multiple departments, functions, and teams to include Privacy, Legal, Engineering, and Product
  • Understanding of Data Management Principles and Data Quality Improvement
  • Solid understanding of Data Warehousing and Data Integration architecture
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate and at all levels of leadership on both the business and technology sides

Experience in the following:

  • Defining Data Quality assessments, KPI definition, remediation and continuous improvement plans
  • Solid understanding of Data Warehouse architecture principles
  • Root cause analysis
  • Data Storytelling
  • Understanding of Master Data Management (MDM)
  • Exposure or experience using Data Science tools; e.g., Databricks, Jupyter, Qubole
  • Skilled in reporting tools to include Tableau or Looker
  • Experience with complex Data Integration architectures
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL; Python
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral) to all staff levels and possess ability to deliver information tactfully. Ability to work with internal teams and external vendor teams
  • Detail-oriented and able to multitask according to project priorities and with complex requirements and aggressive timelines.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Data Quality certification IQCP, CIMP
  • Experience with Data Quality and Metadata products such as Collibra, Informatica, Alation, Amundsen
  • Experience with complex process analysis and technical implementations of data solutions
  • Knowledge of agile SDLC methodologies
  • Possesses understanding of customer behavior analysis and customer data integration
  • Knowledge of Big Data architecture
