Job Description:
The Mainframe DB2 Database Architect will be a key stakeholder in Mainframe processes.
Summary of Role:
Responsibilities include full life cycle management of DB2 mainframe databases from analysis through decommission. Additionally the Individual will be involved in DB2 related z/Os Database software upgrades, including DB2 Database, DB2 Connect, BMC and Shadow products.
Day to day activities would include:
• Provision of technical consultation to application teams during the design of database solutions in regard to approach, resources, availability and recoverability.
• Translation of business requirements into a physical model for implementation with a focus on a clear understanding of processing requirements (peak times, # trans etc), performance, availability, recoverability, and data access methods
• Consulting with the application teams on both ACF2 and RACF managed database security to ensure appropriate access is provisioned for data access
• Defining and implementing application specific backup and recovery strategies for the production environment.
• Implement, change, remove database owned components ensuring adherence to Enterprise and database standards
• Support of product upgrades related to DB2 providing a focal communication point for development teams as well as completing owned DBA remediation activities, executing internal verification processes, conducting assessments of new feature/function and providing recommendations for use.
• Performance tuning support and recommendations for database calls, in cooperation with the application development team.
• Monitoring and addressing items on exception reports to ensure a stable production environment
• Supplying database technical expertise to application developers by assisting in development debugging efforts related to database and providing information on the various database utilities and facilities
• Support DBA production on call rotation including 24X7 SEV1 test support.
• Conduct information sharing meetings with the application teams when requested.
• Support of Self Identified Audits, Control assessments, Database Audits and SOX reviews, ensuring deliverables are complete and correct, and all milestone deliverables dates are met.
Responsibilities:

  • Position requires Mainframe DB2 DBA (DB2 on z/OS) knowledge with a focus on replication.
  • Individual should have minimum of 2-4 years of DB2 DBA experience on z/OS at a single large financial institution.
  • - In depth working knowledge of DB2 Utilities including IBM and BMC
  • - Working knowledge of BMC tools including change manager, catalog manager, Mainview, and SQL performance.
  • -Solid understanding of DB2 recovery options
  • - In-depth understanding of DB2 Explain and ability to identify less than optimal access paths
  • - Broad understanding of ACF2 and RACF2 managed security for DB2 Access.
  • - Working knowledge of Endevor
  • - Working knowledge of ITSM Processes and tools including BMC Remedy
  • - Understanding of Data Dictionaries including Brownstone.
  • - Background in database design for 24x7 availability.
  • Supports senior personnel and project managers on technical projects
  • Assists and helps train junior analysts - includes guiding and providing technical peer reviews.
  • Works on complex problems where analysis of situation or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors; exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion for obtaining results.
  • Will participate in 7x24 on call rotation.
  • Familiar with fundamental problem and dump analysis utilizing diagnostic tools.
  • Proficient in MS Office Tools - Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
  • Able to communicate effectively with peers, management and other technical support associates in a diverse global environment.
  • Must be a highly motivated self starter able to work with minimal supervision.

Leads the resolution process for complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion for obtaining results. Information Technology degree and/or technology certifications preferred or substantial equivalent experience. Typically 7-10 years of IT experience.
