Department OverviewMotorola Solutions develops Mission Critical software products for first responders including police officers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians. Experience Research plays a critical role in ensuring we are making products that make our customer’s lives easier and keep them safe while doing their jobs.
About the Research Team:
The Experience Research team at Motorola Solutions is tasked with helping our stakeholders across the organization envision the future of technology, while bringing to market real-world solutions today. We do this through understanding the unique needs and challenges of our customers in mission critical situations primarily through immersive and ethnographic research. Our team members have backgrounds in anthropology, sociology, psychology, human factors, business, and design.
Job Description
About the Role:
The Lead Research role oversees all of the research needs within the Field Response business unit and works closely with Evaluative and UX Measurement teams to execute research across the product development process. Field Response is focused primarily on the experience of police officers and their interactions with an ecosystem of products including mobile/handheld, in-vehicle, and voice assistant applications. This role will work closely with Product Managers and Designers to define and execute both strategic research (to inform the next generation of these products) and tactical research (to ensure we are making products that meet the needs of our customers.)

Responsibilities include:
Planning and leading end user research to understand workflows, environments, needs, pain points, opportunities, and product experience issues & opportunities.
Disseminate research insights and findings to key business stakeholders including product designers, product managers, and business unit executives.
Influence product strategy and priorities through driving a design-led, human centered approach to design, product development and innovation across design, product management and software development stakeholder organizations.
Advance the practice of experience research by evolving research and dissemination methodologies, strategy, skills and tools.

The researcher role does require occasional (no more than 25%) travel to customer sites or MSI offices. Travel is flexible and very often the researcher is in charge of the schedule giving them flexibility to work around any life/family constraints. During the pandemic, no one is required to travel if they do not want to. Our team has been conducting the majority of our research remotely with little impact to our projects.
Basic Requirements
Bachelor's degree in UX/Interaction Design, Anthropology, Sociology, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field plus 7+ years of professional experience
OR Master's degree in related field plus 5+ years of professional experience
