Job Description

Verisk Insurance Solutions is looking for a Lead Data Scientist to join the Insurance Claims Analytics team.

Working as a Data Scientist at Verisk means: 

  • Being part of and contributing to a large, vibrant community of Data Scientists working in P&C Insurance, Life Insurance, Energy, Financial Services, Environmental Health and Safety, and Geopolitical Security
  • Applying a variety of analytic methodologies including Predictive Modeling, Machine Learning, Forecasting, Network Analytics, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, and Voice and Speech Analytics to develop solutions to business problems 
  • Working with a diverse set of extremely rich datasets such as 19 billion detailed records of insurance premiums collected and losses paid, 90%+ of Insurance Claims in the US, and billions of photos of insurance losses 
  • Seeing your work result in new products, product enhancements, consulting revenue, or internal process improvements on a regular basis 
  • Working with cutting-edge technology, and continuously developing new skills and capabilities 

Working in Verisk’s Insurance Claims Group involves: 

  • Forming part of an Analytics Center of Excellence who build AI and machine learning products for Verisk’s P&C insurance claims vertical worldwide 
  • Developing analytics solutions that help make millions of people financially whole more quickly after suffering losses such as house fires, auto accidents, hailstorms, hurricanes, injuries at work, and more 
  • Working on state of the art AI solutions that sit at the core of market-leading products used by thousands of insurance professionals and consumers. 
  • Green-field disruption of legacy process and systems as you work on a wide variety of technologies and products from fraud detection to deep learning 

Specific Responsibilities  

  • The development and timely delivery of analytic solutions that meet specified technical requirements. 
  • Develop analytic solutions using machine learning techniques including Predictive Modeling, Text Mining, Entity Resolution, Time-series Forecasting, Network Analytics, Computer Vision, and Automated Speech Recognition 
  • Ensure that solutions meet specified technical requirements in a timely manner 
  • The sharing of important methodologies, advances, and best practices from your work among the whole analytic community 

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree (M.S. required, Ph.D. preferred) in a quantitative discipline
  • 4+ years professional experience building machine learning and deep learning models in NLP
  • Exposure to the property & casualty industry is desirable, and experience with medical, clinical, fraud & abuse and pharmacy data analytics is a big plus
  • Ability to lead projects from model design to deployment
  • Proficient with NLP models for classification, information retrieval, recommender systems, NER, text summarization etc.
  • Experience working with large datasets
  • Experience with deep learning libraries such as Tensorflow and PyTorch
  • Extensive experience in Python programming
  • Understanding of RDBMs and interactive SQL programming skills are a must
  • Experience with Big Data technologies like Spark and Cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, etc.)
  • Experience with Git, JIRA, and basic software development best practices is required
  • Aptitude for picking up new technologies is expected
  • Strong communication skills
