Lead Data Scientist, Digital Insights
Summary
As the Digital Insights team, we are experts in our customers' digital and e-commerce behaviors over time and their propensity for engagement in the days ahead. We bring data science rigor and business acumen together to deliver insights to Kroger and enable other teams to leverage our eCommerce data assets for activation.
As Lead Data Scientist, you are joining a community of analysts, data scientists, and software engineers who work collaboratively to drive business value via our rich first-party data. Data Scientists focus on using scientific methods to develop sciences to solve current business problems. This role will pair a background in mathematics and statistics with experience in clickstream data and strong business acumen. You will be focused on bringing that knowledge of clickstream data to the Digital Insights team. In collaboration with a multi-functional group of product managers, engineers and business consultants, you will tap into the underlying clickstream data, align on metrics, and generate insights.

Lead Data Scientist, Digital Insights

This role will pair a background in mathematics and statistics with experience in clickstream data and strong business acumen. You will be focused on bringing that knowledge of clickstream data to the Digital Insights team. In collaboration with a multi-functional group of product managers, engineers and business consultants, you will tap into the underlying clickstream data, align on metrics, and generate insights.
Responsibilities:
- Leverage clickstream data along with customer transactions to attain a full view of the Kroger eCommerce customer and to identify opportunities for improving customer experience and influence product roadmaps.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Capabilities team and other Data Science teams to enhance Clickstream data model and identify areas to integrate clickstream data into analytic projects.
- Incorporate clickstream data into segmentation/modeling/analysis.
- Apply statistical and analytical techniques to large datasets to uncover insights that shape better business decisions.
- Scope and manage projects from beginning to end to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget and to brief specification.
- Lead shaping and delivering analytical plans in support of client or stakeholder roadmap, ensuring that best practices and innovative ideas are adopted.
- Guide and direct data scientists in realizing efficiencies and creating standard processes, such as automation of code lines, removing manual tasks, or re-engineering existing processes to make them more efficient.
- Communicate important technical information clearly to upper management to steer organizational direction, to teammates as part of project work, to other data scientists to guide their work, and to less technical functions such as product management.
- Proactively manage the development of best practice and knowledge management, and champion the capture and sharing of knowledge across the data science community.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, economics, or similar discipline
- Hands-on experience using Python, R or other similar statistical software to develop analytical solutions.
- Experience querying data from relational databases using SQL.
- Experience with data wrangling, data cleaning and prep, dimensionality reduction, particularly with clickstream.
- Experience with Big Data concepts, tools, and architecture (e.g. Hadoop, Pig, Hive, Spark)
Skills:
- Ability to create computationally efficient solutions
- Strong open-source programming (Python, R, SQL) and cloud platform skills
- Excellent communication skills, particularly on technical topics.
- Data visualization skills and ability to present technical solutions to non-technical audience.
- Strong analytical, creative problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Natural curiosity that welcomes and embraces change and willingness to try new things and to fail.
- Strong business acumen; grocery and/or retail experience is a plus.
- High level of independence; ability to make time-sensitive decisions rapidly and solve urgent problems without escalation.
- Strong time and project management skills; the ability to balance multiple, simultaneous work items and prioritize as necessary.
Experience:
- 4+ years of experience in extracting insights from large databases, including clickstream, translating market research into actionable solutions and presenting findings and recommendations to clients or stakeholders
- 4+ years of experience using advanced algorithms, programming languages, or technologies in the development of technical analytics solutions or capabilities.
- 4+ years of experience in tech consulting, retail or related professional services
- 4+ years of experience working with clickstream data
