The Lead Data Science Engineer role at naviHealth will report to the VP or Director, Data Science and will build data ingestion pipelines, create features, help develop and enable production deployment of machine learning algorithms and analytic tools that will promote enhanced decision support and improved solutions for our internal/external customers. The ideal candidate while focused on AI/ML engineering tasks should be able to participate in all aspects of the product development activities especially in areas of data integrations, data ingestion and work closely with IT and Product/Business teams.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop, enhance, integrate, test and deploy machine learning solutions
  • Lead end-to-end implementation of AI/ML powered platform features and capabilities
  • Collaborate with nH Product, Business and IT teams in designing, implementing Data Science products in production and integrating with operational systems
  • Deliver professional level technical work related to big data and complex large data sets, building data ingestion pipelines (streaming and batch data), feature engineering and deploying algorithms in production
  • Mentor and coach junior Data Science Engineers and Data Scientists on various data acquisition, data preparation, ML model management and other Data Science automations tasks
  • Operate within established methodologies, procedures and guidelines; work independently in a fast-paced, agile environment
  • Develop technical specifications and design documents
  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets. Deliver actionable recommendations and support implementations of solutions
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Applied Sciences or related discipline
  • 8+ years of experience in architecting, developing and deploying data solutions especially for analytics and machine learning projects
  • Expert in RDBMS and experience with Spark, Scala, shell scripting
  • Experience in writing solid unit tests and integration tests
  • Experience in designing and developing/coding software components in Bigdata, that includes various tools like Map Reduce, Hive, Sqoop, Kafka, Spark/Scala or Java
  • Strong project leadership and management skills
  • Experience with cloud-based deployments and ML capabilities


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • Ability to collaborate and work in fast-paced agile product development teams
  • US healthcare knowledge and experience
  • Experience with Microservice architecture and Kubernetes
  • Experience with .net
  • Strong written, verbal and visual communication skills

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $79,700 to $142,600. The salary range for Connecticut/Nevada residents is $87,900 to $156,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
