Lead Data Engineer - Looker
Summary
Big Fish is looking for a new Lead Data Engineer to own our Looker instance. This role requires you to apply a breadth of technical knowledge and strategic thinking to push the limits of the Looker platform and bring self-serve analytics capabilities to our Product teams. Within the Business Performance organization you'll work closely with stakeholders across the company to create effective solutions with our analytics tools that power top mobile games with millions of users per day. You'll be joining a team with a mix of full time employees and contractors, and in this role you'll be frequently working outside of the engineering team to enable other teams to maximize their value from Looker. We are excited to be using the latest cloud native technologies and are looking for someone who wants to push the envelope of the software we deliver to our business and data customers within Big Fish.
Responsibilities
● Architect systems from Looker down to the Data Warehouse, including query optimization and data set definition.
● Partner with other engineers and contractors to implement your designs, including code review, QA, deployment, and operation
● Mentor other engineers on the team to help grow their Looker dev skills
● Create and improve processes for the Data Engineering team
● Collaborate with other technology teams and business partners to deliver the right solution for the organization
● Own uptime/scalability/breakfixing of production systems that are critical to the business
● Partner with Product and Business stakeholders to bring a competitive advantage to our organization through data and analytics
Qualifications
● Experience owning and operating a Looker instance for a large user base (200+)
● Ability to handle high levels of ambiguity and transform business needs into software solutions
● Highly effective communicator across in person and digital mediums with technical and non-technical audiences
● Independent operator who can work with minimal supervision while helping supervise and mentor other team members
● Experience working with multi-terabyte data sets
● Familiarity with with cloud data warehouse technologies (BigQuery, Snowflake)
● Advanced SQL skills with ETLs and Data Warehousing experience
● 8+ years working in Data Engineering, Analytics, or related field

Previous project lead role working with nearshore/offshore contractors
