About the Role: 
As a Lead Analyst, for the Emerging Technology (ET) research team, you’ll help lead and develop a growing team focused on creating best-in-class venture capital and emerging technology research utilized by PitchBook’s global clientele of private capital investors, investment banks and other service providers. Our team is creative, driven and focused on providing actionable, differentiated industry research to our readers and clients. Specifically, we are looking for a lead analyst to work in conjunction with the head of ET research to help expand, grow and develop the team. The lead analyst will be at the forefront of helping steer and shape PitchBook’s private market-focused research franchise.
PitchBook Institutional Research Group is a provider of research services to corporate clients, private market investors, advisors and other market participants. The group provides investment strategy, fund performance, and industry research through a differentiated, framework-driven approach that blends traditional fundamental investment research with PitchBook’s proprietary private market data platform. In addition, the group provides custom research and data analysis support to subscribing clients.
Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Work to ensure the ET team remains aligned with overall corporate objectives and organizational strategies
  • Ensure existing processes related to research-creation, publication and distribution are maintained and improved when needed to meet the changing needs of PitchBook clients
  • Contribute to ongoing efforts to streamline internal processes in ways that help the ET team scale to meet growing client demand for research and insights
  • Develop an understanding of how clients currently use and would like to use ET research and use that knowledge to help shape and develop the Emerging Tech research product
  • Help the team of ET analysts grow and develop, which could include mentorship, editing research, providing feedback and direction, and ensuring the team has the resources it needs to continue to produce differentiated, proprietary research
  • Spearhead and contribute to efforts to develop new types of research based on market-fit, which could include utilizing proprietary data sets in helpful ways as well as creating partnerships with other data vendors to generate unique and innovative insights
  • Act as a representative of, and an advocate for ET research both externally and internally. Externally, this could include helping clients understand our research offerings, attending conferences or other speaking events and/or hosting webinars. Internally, this could include liaising across the organization, including with other teams within the institutional research group as well as sales, marketing, PR and product development teams

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Leadership capabilities and an eagerness to help lead a team and contribute to building new products and services for a growing customer base in an emerging industry
  • Demonstrated experience writing investment research and conducting regular conversations with clients related to investment opportunities. Specifically, 5+ years of research experience, either in equity research, investment banking, Venture Capital or other related financial services role
  • Experience managing employees or leading a team of analysts.
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics or Computer Science Preferred. Strong understanding of financial concepts such as valuation techniques (DCF, comps, etc.), IRRs, asset allocations, fund benchmarks, KPIs etc.
  • Strong interest in and demonstrated understanding of venture capital, growth equity and emerging technologies
  • Detail-oriented / analytical mindset
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written
  • Excel proficiency
  • Experience in SQL and PitchBook Platform a plus
