The Opportunity
As an Investment Portfolio Analyst you will work in a fast paced, analytical, and collaborative environment, helping to inform and drive critical investment decisions for MassMutual
The Team
The Portfolio Strategy and Macroeconomic Research Team is responsible for critical functions supporting management of MassMutual’s GIA and the newly-acquired Great American Life Insurance Company’s GIA. The team is tasked with quantitative analysis, asset allocation, asset liability management, and fundamental research aimed at maximizing returns for our policyholders. The team is collaborative, inclusive, and plays off of each other’s strengths to solve complex problems. Working on this team, you will have the opportunity to interact with various internal and stakeholders including MassMutual’s Finance and Enterprise Risk Areas and Barings, MassMutual’s wholly-owned asset manager. The Impact:
- Research & Reporting – Summarize and synthesize large data sets, research and analysis into tailored, digestible content for multiple audiences; communicate ideas and concepts through concise writing and use of graphics to inform and influence stakeholders clearly, timely, and appropriately
- Asset Allocation – Work across multi-asset classes, with an emphasis on fixed income and private assets, to track investment activity, performance, and key metrics to assess risk and relative value. Constantly scan the portfolio and investment activity for factors, trends, and patterns that may impact risk and return
- Analysis & decisions - Proactively identify risks and opportunities within the investment and macroeconomic landscape to support MassMutual’s investment strategy. Learn in real time and make proactive recommendations on investment opportunities
- Investment Manager Communication – Act as a steward of MassMutual’s resources in providing investment guidance to managers on the specific and varied requirements of the insurance investment accounts. Gather and coordinate a wide range of investment information and metrics from various investment managers and use relevant data and understanding of MassMutual’s business to make sound decisions that drive strong risk-adjusted returns for our policyholders
- Strategic Entity Reporting, Analysis, and Forecasting – Develop understanding of MassMutual’s strategic entities; assess and communicate their performance to key stakeholders demonstrating strong business-specific knowledge; act as subject matter expert to provide other business areas with forecasts and critical assumptions to support optimal and timely decision making
- Continuous Improvement - Work on projects with varying levels of complexity and diversity supporting a wide range of stakeholders and initiatives
The Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience with investments including experience in a research or investment management role
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, strategic thinking, and the ability to balance multiple priorities
- Ability to manipulate large data sets using excel and other tools
The Ideal Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Finance or MBA
- CFA designation (or proven progress towards completion)
- Possessing, or the ability to develop, a working knowledge of financial modelling
- Experience in fixed income or private assets
- Experience with Bloomberg and/or Bloomberg API
