Investment Operations Developer - ALM Asset Modeling, Portfolio Analytics
The Opportunity
As an Investment Operations Developer, you will be part of the investment team responsible for accurate and timely portfolio analytics for MassMutual's general investment account. In this position you will play a key role in implementing our new investment data curation system (PALMS). You will gain an understanding of existing data curation needs through hands-on experience, help refine the vision for PALMS, and partner with IT professionals to implement that vision. This will involve defining clear requirements, validating the application, and ultimately using the application to perform regular data curation.
The Team
The ALM Asset Modeling team is charged with modeling MassMutual's general investment account to execute the company's asset and liability management strategy. In order to accomplish this, the team partners with portfolio managers, investment strategists, and actuaries to produce the essential analytics. Our team is in the middle of a multi-year effort to update our ALM platform to streamline procedures, improve model controls, and increase efficiency. Therefore, we are actively and collectively deciding how we will reshape our processes.
The Impact
Curate investment holdings data in current APL based system to facilitate asset modeling
Become a subject matter expert for the investment data curation process
Collaborate with PALMS project team to define requirements for the new data curation system, troubleshoot questions that arise during development, and validate the application results
Produce annual asset cash flow projections utilized in cash flow testing
Generate reports on investment portfolio for senior leadership
Respond to ad-hoc requests from business partners for investment data and analysis
Train and develop junior team members
The Minimum Qualifications
5 years of relevant work experience specifically in asset modeling and familiar with large datasets of assets data
Bachelor's degree or higher
Understanding of fixed income securities and interest rate derivatives
Programming experience in a language such as Python, VBA, or SQL
Able to prioritize multiple projects simultaneous
Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
The Ideal Qualifications
Working knowledge of financial instruments used for life insurance company asset and liability management
Strong modeling and technical skillset
Comfortable working with large datasets
Programming expertise in Python, VBA, SQL, and APL
Intellectual curiosity to explore new technology and find alternative solutions
Experience working on a large IT project including writing systems requirements
