Our Consumer & Community Banking Group depends on innovators like you to serve consumers, small businesses, municipalities and non-profits. You'll support the delivery of award winning tools and services that cover everything from personal and small business banking as well as lending, mortgages, credit cards, payments, auto finance and investment advice. This group is also focused on developing and delivering cutting edged mobile applications, digital experiences and next generation banking technology solutions to better serve our clients and customers.
Chase Home Lending Technology supports the full product lifecycle of business functions that help Americans build generational wealth though home ownership. The Data Strategy team is looking for talented, insightful and experienced data engineers and architects to strategically lead our modernization, engineering acceleration and business innovation initiatives.
Position Specifics:
With the transition to modern databases, operational support ownership of databases is moving from central DBA teams to application product teams, similar to how Cloud database support works. Home Lending Technology is looking for experienced database administrators with experience with Oracle and SQL Server, but also with interest or working experience in NoSQL databases, such as Cassandra, MongoDB, ElasticSearch, or similar.
Individual capabilities and responsibilities will include:

  • Analyze, design, engineer, provision, configure and support legacy and Cloud Database Management systems in support of business technology requirements
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise (SME) in Database Administration
  • Partner with multiple application (AD) teams in Home Lending to review their current database estates, analyze business drivers and technical KPIs, review modernization plans and help them select a proper technology solution for data storage needs.
  • High proficiency in database performance tuning. Help build knowledge in application development teams of the proper practices and drive proactive practices and increase self-service.
  • Analyze telemetry and develop data migration, purging and archival strategies.
  • Ensure timely incident resolution and root cause analysis for stability and reliability issues
  • Ensure business continuity
  • Responsible for development and implementation of automated processes to improve database system reliability, in partnership with AD teams.
  • Develop comprehensive DB architecture, implementation and upgrade plans for applications they work with
  • Understand database standards, policies and procedures and informs AD teams
  • Create and maintains run books
  • Ensure all productions changes are made in accordance with lifecycle methodology and risk guidelines
  • Working within a team construct, vet, and implement critical solutions
  • Capable of finding a balance between best-of-breed and cost-effective designs
  • Appreciate details without getting lost in them
  • Act as a positive team player that is capable of accepting different intellectual points of view
  • Excellent English language verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to analyze and articulate problems and provide input into solutions
  • Able to defend proposed solutions and take on constructive feedback
  • A respect for strong process and control management disciplines

  • Be focused on a goal, not the specifics of the code you author


Required Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of a core database technology and its internals plus knowledge of development practices and automated solutions with focus on customer self-service through API enablement, provisioning, resiliency and database performance.
  • Architect advanced, strategic DBMS solutions, support development and/or production of large scale, complex distributed and Cloud environments, develop and manage execution of DB implementation/upgrade
  • Utilize and develop tools and performs database performance monitoring, analysis and recommendations
  • High proficiency in database and/or SQL analysis and tuning
  • 5+ years' experience in infrastructure engineering and support
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Strong development skills in a Dynamic Programming Language (Python, Javascript,.NET, Perl, SQL, TSQL)
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle, build processes, testing and operations
  • Good understanding of Agile methodology
  • High level of proficiency debugging and analyzing complex software systems, including a willingness to deep-dive into all layers of the technology stack
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of event-driven architecture and common events


Optional Skills:

  • Experience with or willingness to learn NoSQL technologies approved for use at JPMC.
  • Understanding of mortgage banking or capital markets is a plus.
  • Public Cloud architecture and/or development experience.
  • Experience with Snowflake and bridging on-prem and cloud databases a strong plus.
  • Experience in data governance
  • Knowledgeable in high-volume messaging products (Kafka, Solace, AMPS, Kinesis, etc.)
  • Intermediate- or expert-level programming experience in Perl or Python
  • User-level experience with Linux RH6.5 and greater
  • Administrator-level experience with Windows Server technology
  • Scripting including PowerShell, bash, csh, or sh
