What great looks like in this role

This leader will be responsible for engaging with business partners, controls partners, data architects, cyber security leaders and others to define enterprise data standards and controls, and execute a DPP governance program. Success requires recording metadata in the moment of data capture including the business purpose for collection and its source, jurisdiction/sovereignty, and contractual context such that business and protection rules can be applied at scale. Success also includes facilitating education and advocacy of principled data usage and protection, best practices, and emerging data architecture patterns.

 

Our ideal candidate has extensive knowledge and practitioner experience with risk management programs in the financial industry, is fluent in data architecture, information management and cyber security, and possesses the business acumen necessary to champion an interdisciplinary approach that empowers our business for success.

 

Objectives of the role

  • Set strategy and roadmaps and drive the ongoing vision and execution of the data purpose and protection program

  • Design and activate enterprise policies, standards and controls for risk management and maximizing business value

  • Develop a pragmatic, accountable stewardship program across the enterprise and drive our data culture from the catalog and protect against data harvesting

  • Envision and deliver scalable architectures and governance-by-design best practices for business teams to understand and honor data provenance, purpose, consent, protection and disposition

  • Deliver and maintain enterprise data classification, inventory, encryption, disassociation, e-discovery and records management capabilities and evidence for structured and unstructured data.

  • Execute data purpose and protection operations including assessments, risk tracking, controls monitoring, and administer service management

  • Design oversight insights and key metrics to measure program effectiveness.

  • Continue to hire and lead top talent

  • Identify, follow and formulate opinions on trends in industry, academia and legislature.

This role is based out of our Boston, MA office and will work in cross-functional teams collaborating with subject matter experts across the enterprise.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Data Management, Computer Science, Data Science and Analytics or similar majors

  • Extensive experience and successful track record of establishing and executing complex, strategic, cross-functional enterprise programs with a high degree of change management.

  • 10+ years of data governance, data management and data protection experience preferably within financial services or another highly-regulated industry

  • Expert level understanding of data management and data protection concepts, principles and practices

  • Professional experience with cloud-native platforms and architectures

  • Deep familiarity with data policy/standards development and management practices

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Exceptional influencing abilities across all levels of the organization

  • Authorized to work in the USA without sponsorship.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ​Masters or PhD in preferably in Data Management, Computer Science, Data Science and Analytics or similar majors

  • JD or advanced certifications in data governance, privacy, cyber security or similar fields

  • Strong understanding of privacy, data governance, cyber security, and predictive AI/ML systems in highly regulated environments

  • Financial services knowledge, including core regulations and business processes

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional

  • AWS Certified Data Analytics - Specialty

  • AWS Certified Security - Specialty

  • Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert

  • Expertise with representative technologies and platforms: AWS, Azure/M365, Vertica, BigID, Varonis, Voltage, Vormetric, Informatica TDM, Alation, Microstrategy
